Sleeping long hours

For a few years now I've been sleeping a lot and just find myself needing a lot of sleep to function. I find it really hard not to take a nap during the day unless i have coffee/energy drinks.
One weekend I slept for 20 hours and only woke up once, but not enough to get up and move. Once I fall asleep it's really hard to wake up or take a short nap.
I've had blood tests done and apparently nothing is wrong. I just lost a job because of it and it's affecting everything I try to do.
It gets a lot worse when I don't take my antidepressant and/or my vitamin D.

I'm just wondering if anyone else has had a similar problem?

Hello Sadbad and welcome to NeuroTalk.

You might consider talking to your Dr. about getting a Sleep Study. A Sleep Study would be able to determine if you have a sleep disorder which might account for your excessive sleepiness.

Could certainly be HypoT issues. Here is a long list of symptoms from sluggish thyroid.
I have a thread on thyroid in this same section.

A am a type 2 diabetic with sleep apnia and love my cpap etc. getting about 8 hours of sleep a night. But a couple of years ago my DR. changed me from Lipitor to Simvistatin which I think is generic Zocor. Well all of a sudden I couldn't get enough sleep. After sleeping a full 8 hours I just had to go back to bed for a little 2 or 3 hour nap after I had been up a couple of hours. After I stopped the Simvistatin and started back on Lipitor my sleep returned to normal in a few weeks. As it so happens I have a friend about my age also a type 2 diabetic with sleep apnia who experienced the same thing when on Simvistatin. After I stopped the Simvistatin I found an article saying some people taking it suffered from poor quality sleep.
