Rytary for PD
 

Hello community. At 53 my husband was diagnosed with early onset PD and has been managing well with Rytary. However, he has just added one more dose a day to a total of 8 pills (36.25/145) per day. The cost of Rytary alone is about $600/mo. Add to that the Azilect and all the other meds he is cocktailing. Sadly our insurance, United Healthcare, will not include this on their formulary. The cost of these meds is simply not sustainable. Has anyone found a susbstantial coupon or international e-pharmacy? The Impax (Rytary mfr.) coupons are useless after the first Rx fill. Any leads appreciated.

I can't speak on the drug costs except so many are so out of sight costwise. My cousin's husband had PD and I knew he was doing good for a long time but passed away from complications of bowel blockage. I am of the mindset that we can do a lot alternatively too for all health issues. This is just one link from Mayo. I'm sure there is more info out there. I'm not saying no on the drugs but adjuncts to them and the body. Magnesium is important.

Since Rytary (extended release) is a brand name product and looks like no generics yet, has he tried the generic carb/lev to see how he does with it?

Sometimes you can contest an insurance denial of a medicine.
If the doctor writes to the ins and explains why this is needed.
He may be required to do a test on a similar generic and the dr documents if it does, or does not work .
If it does not , the doctor confirms that only this brand name product works for this person.
It is worth a try.. ask about this at the drs office. they should know what is needed.

And pharmacies do vary greatly in pricing so always check around to find the lower cost on each Rx.

Interesting COQ10 is first in the recommended list. Fava beans at the bottom.

Yes, we are on to supplements. Thanks all for fava, magnesium and CoQ10 referrals. They do work. And yet...

The generic carpo/lepidova is not time-released so generic does not work for him.

And despite 3 letters from doc to insurance co. big pharma is not helping. So frustrating.

Keep those leads coming. I'm all ears!
