Hbot
What is this forum's current opinion on Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy? I know there have been some studies done on it for TBI and PCS.
I'm starting to venture into alternative therapy options. |
The jury is still out on HBOT. Nobody has reported success in a substantial way.

Hi Danny,
Dr Harch in New Orleans might still have his study going. My daughter said by far this has been her best treatment. For lodging we went through airbnb and negotiated a great rate once we knew that she was accepted into the study. She rode the bus to the center for treatment and explored. I would definitely check into the study since it it free. Good luck, |
I can't say anything about the effectiveness of HBOT, but I think it would be worth a try if you can get into Dr. Harch's free study or get insurance to cover it.
Just a word of advice... If you really want to do the study... I went through all of Dr. Harch's screening and he told me I had a place in his study and to think it over with my family. So then we called him back to accept and had some more detailed questions for him about how the study worked and what to expect. They seemed like normal questions anyone would ask that was traveling 500+ miles to do a medical study. I guess he didn't like our questions and said that I was too high anxiety and too much of a risk to participate in his study. It was very upsetting to have him change his mind and reject me after getting my hopes up about doing it. I thought it was also very unprofessional. So if you want to do it, you have to be careful how you present yourself to Dr. Harch apparently. That is just my experience with it. Good luck to you. |
Thanks for the suggestions. How recent was all of this? I can't seem to find whether or not the study is still open.

It is not exactly "experimental" anymore. There have been some that have been able to get insurance to cover HBOT. Some state legislatures have also passed legislation to treat veterans with head injuries with HBOT.
Danny - I just called Dr. Harch's office and asked them about the study. The number is on his website. |
So there's not one Neurotalk Brain injury member who has benefitted from HBOT?
|
Over the years there have been a few who have done HBOT with perceived short term benefits. I don't remember anybody who has reported long term benefits
