Introduction from Jeff
Hi everyone,
I joined the neurotalk community last month in order to benefit from the knowledge and experience of all the people here. I was born in 1956 and was diagnosed with idiopathic Parkinson's disease in June 2015. My main symptom is tremor (on the right side). One of my current interests is the use of high-cadence cycling to alleviate the symptoms, and potentially slow the progression, of PD. I've done a few posts already on the "Pedaling for Parkinson's" thread. Warm regards to everyone, Jeff |
Biology basics?
I forgot to mention that I'm also interested in learning about the basic structure of the nervous system, in order to better understand some of the research papers I've been reading. I've realized that I don't have a good understanding of things such as DNA, genes, gene expression, cells, mitochondria etc. etc.
Can anyone recommend some good introductory material (preferably on the web) which covers these things? |
This link is a good place to start; http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/books/.
You can search it for on-line books about topics which interest you; cell biology, molecular biology, genetics, biochemistry, etc. |
Good starting point
Thanks kiwi33. I've had a quick look. I'll use this as my starting point.
