Growth in gum in panoramic X-ray

1 Attachment(s)
Hi Bryanna

I have had a lump on lower left corner of the jaw for past 2 years which is hard and movable. However for past few months I have been feeling soreness in lower left corner of my mouth in the gums. I had it checked by a dentist last week and she took a panoramic X-ray. According to her, the lower left teeth are fine but there is a growth under the gums in lower left corner which could be pushing against the nerves and causing the soreness. I have attached the panoramic X-ray. Do you also see a growth? I am extremely worried since it is above the growth which can be felt in my jaw. Would appreciate if you could take a look at the X-ray and let me know if you see a growth in lower left corner of mouth.

Thank you
Minty

Hi Minty,

Thanks for posting the panorex. Two things that make this "copy" difficult to read properly is 1) The xray is over exposed meaning the radiolucent areas are overly pronounced which distorts or even exaggerates some of the critical details of the image. 2) This copy is not marked which is your Left and which is the Right side. Because it appears (on this copy) that you may have some dental issues on both sides, I cannot specifically comment on which is your left side.

When looking straight at the xray as you have posted it in your notes, which is YOUR LEFT side? Also, did she take any other xrays of your mouth in addition to this panorex?

Thanks Bryanna for taking a look at the pano X-ray. The left side is the one on the right in the pano. She took some regular X-rays of my teeth too but the panorex is the only 1 I have a copy of.

On the right side, 4 years back I had a benign tumor in the parotid gland which was surgically removed.

Thank you,
Minty

Hi Minty,

Thanks for clarifying.

It would be best to consult with an oral surgeon for proper diagnosis of the suspicious area on the left. As I said, the quality of "this copy" is not ideal but it does show some dental problems in various areas of your mouth. Have you had a complete examination with your dentist to discuss the health of your teeth and gums?

Hi Bryanna

Yes, they have mentioned gum issues. I have not seen an oral surgeon, this diagnosis is from regular dentist. I was concerned about the growth she mentioned and wanted to check if you see anything since I am not sure if I see anything there.

Also, other than gum issues, do you see anything else of concern?

Thanks
Minty

Minty,

The copy of this xray is not of good diagnostic quality. It shows dental concerns but not the severity of them.

It is evident that you have moderate bone loss and probably some deep gum pockets in several areas as well as some decay etc.

It would be wise to consult with an oral surgeon as soon as possible. Then see your dentist for a complete comprehensive examination and discuss treatment options to take care of your dental problems before they become more significant.

Please let us know what the surgeon says.
