Surgery and Plasmapherisis
 

I'm planning to have hip replacement surgery next month .I checked with my neuro and he told me I shoiuld have plasmopherisis before ...and after the surgery . I'm assuming that a hemotologist would do the procedure .
Is there anyone who has gone through this ...Surgery asnd Plasmapherisis and could offer any insight or recommendations

Your neurologist should be able to write the order for plasmapheresis. It depends on the facility, but usually a plasmapheresis nurse will do the procedure.

Unless you have very good peripheral (arm) veins, you will need some type of temporary venous access for the treatment. They prefer to put an external catheter in a large neck vein like the jugular or subclavian.
It sounds scary, but I've been having it for over three years now and it really helps with strength.

I'm sure your doctor will set it up for you. I haven't had it, so I can't give you any details.

Make sure that you rest up before the surgery and try not to exacerbate MG in any way, such as being out in the hot weather!

Any surgery involves damage to peripheral nerves. It would help to take methylcobalamin B12 for a few months after the surgery to help heal those nerves.
