Seizure Disorders

Hello. My name is Lorie and my daughter has had a seizure disorder since she was 1 year old. She has a calcium deposit on the left side of her brain. Although medication has kept her "full-blown" seizures at bay, she continues to struggle with "episodes" with every bit of growing that she does. She is 10 years old now and is up to 6 pills per day. Her DR is looking into changing her meds and that is still a work in progress. Can anybody tell me what other options she might have?

Hi Lorie

Not sure what other things your doctor would consider trying.

You might look into the diets but at her age you would really need
her to agree the diet on the keto. But its really a hard sell I think.

The other one though might be a more likable diet. LGI a lot like
the Atkins diet. I am not sure of the initials for the diet.

Then there is always the VNS, but not sure if that is a option.

My friends son just started the LGIT, it is a modified Keto diet. About a month ago when we talked to the dietition I rejected it but there was a lot going on then- anyway we have been thinking really seriously about it. My friends little boy is 7- he is allowed 10 carbs per day but from what I understood that is really the only restriction. he can have all the meat he wants. I definitly want more info on it after talking to her yesterday.

Riley has the VNS which helps a little bit.

What meds is your daughter on?
