Newbie, wanted to say hi & learn from you

Medically, I am a mess. I have been diagnosed as having allergies, asthma,
Vocal Cord Dysfunction, GERD, Carpal Tunnel caused by a compressed disc in my upper spine (per doctor), inoperable lower back damage which put me in the Chronic Pain area, Pelvic Floor damaged, therefore I was told I would need to use a catheter the rest of my life (I am 61), severe sleep apnea (Central Sleep apneas, Cheynes-Stokes respirations, PVCs AND...when I quit breathing, I don't always start up again. I am on oxygen about 2/3 of the time and my pulse ox
was running from 72-87 during the day. When I would get up, it was usually around 80. I was sent to get a brain scan to check for lesions that might cause some of my problems. And if I thought about it, there are some other things.
Oh, I have been diagnosed with RLS and have had the real Sciatic Nerve Attacks, where you feel your flesh is being ripped of your bones with metal jaws. Don't laugh, that is how I described it to the Ortho surgeon and he said I was right. A good description.

I am married, 4 daughters and one son. Our oldest daughter is 40 and has been diagnosed as having MS. I have four cousins with MS, so I may have it.

I consider myself a Christian and I am thrilled the Lord took me back.

I am on Morphine and will be until I die or science catches up with me. The morphine (Avinza) and the BT pain meds have messed up my memory, so when I post like this, I hold my breath, hoping I don't mess up.

I was banned from Healthboards because I asked the moderator to please show compassion for a man I considered borderline suicidal. I don't mind being out of there, but I resent the word banned next to my name. I sent them an email tonight, asking that they remove my posts or remove the demeaning term "Banned" next to my name. I am hoping they will do so. If not, I will take further action. They are in California, like myself. And I concur they have the potential to be a great help to many more people, but the moderators are out of control.

I was on 25 prescriptions two months ago, but I was sent to Denver, CO -- to the big Respiratory Hospital there. My week of testing stretched out to over three weeks. I had a device implanted in my heart to plug the hole that was in it, allowing desat blood to cross over into the oxygenated blood. This was the main reason (we hope) that my oxygen levels were so low.

They also said my brain is not functioning correctly. When most people have a pulse ox below 88, their brain tells them to breathe deeper, faster, etc. Mine does not. In fact, in tests where they deliberately induced Carbon Dioxide into my lungs, I was still talking to them and my brain was ok with it as they drove my pulse ox down to 60. I have to learn how to correct my brain's problems there.

I have lung problems, in the small airways, with many being damaged or diseased. My mother smoked heavily while pregnant and while I was growing up. I was born with bronchitis and it never got a lot better.

I am not sure what kind of personal info I am allowed to put in her,but I am married to the most wonderful lady I could ever hope for. She provides adult supervision most of the time. I have a service dog that is smarter than two of our kids. When my wife had her knee replaced in February, she taught our dog to take the laundry out of the dryer, put it in a basket and pull it to the back of the house, where my wife would fold it and I would put it away.

Life is pretty good, in spite of my medical problems. As my Dad used to say,
"If you can solve your problems with money, you don't have any problems."
I have problems.

I hope to learn a little more about my lower back damage and referred pain.
I currently have 3 pain patches on my right hip. LidoCaine Patches, not Fentanyl. Fentanyl makes me sick.

Oh yeah, I am long winded. Sorry about that. :)

Hi, dllfo, welcome to NeuroTalk!

Boy, you sure have a full basket, I'm sorry for that. I'm also very sorry to learn about your daughter's MS and other family to boot. It's no fun and let's hope things are under control.

As for being banned from HB, that's considered a trophy around here! Our Mods are excellent, and happen also to be human!

Do take advantage of the nifty search engine in the blue tool bar above and feel free to jump in anywhere, this is a friendly, supportive community.

I hope to see you around.:)

Hi, Dllfo, nice to meet you. :) I wish it were under better circumstances, but we can't have it all, can we?

Wow, that sure is a list of problems! I am not too sure where to direct you, lol. If you would let me know which problems you consider to be the worst ones, we could start there! For now, here is the link to the "Chronic Pain" forum:

If I can be of any further help, just let me now! You can either post more here, or PM me.

Hello dllfo and welcome to NeuroTalk

You certainly have your hands full at the moment. But, you were in good hands At National Jewish Hospital in Denver....At least I believe that's the hospital your referring to.

Hi Dllfo,

I am sorry that you are having to cope with so much but you have such a good outlook. And your wife sounds so sweet. I sure hope things improve for you and that you find some good information here at NT to help you. The people here are very caring and great listeners so I am sure you will make some good friends along the way.

Hi dllfo. Your 'long-windedness' just showed us how full your plate is! I am so sorry for all of your physical problems, but it sounds like you have a wonderful family and a good outlook on life.

You've just landed in a wonderful community. Not like the other boards at all. Our owner/operator, Doc John, is absolutely fantabulous and contributes a lot, and the moderators are tremendously awesome. I don't know if they can walk on water, though. :D

If you need any help navigating this site, let us know. And, oh, I am a huge animal lover. Give your sweet dog hugs and kisses from me and tell your wife she also is too awesome for words!

Hi Dilfo and Welcome to NT! :welcome_sign:

Don't worry about HB's ... our one and only AMN (Cindy) got booted off there in a couple of posts... Of course, she was trying to see how long it would take her...

You have ALOT to deal with, but you have a partner that obviously cares about you and vice~versa. Your wife sounds like a special lady.

Glad you found us.... take care...
