Off topic, Chronic Pseudo Obstruction

I just had to tell you guys what just happened.

I just ran into a fundraiser for a 19 year old girl who suffers from Chronic Pseudo Obstruction along with a chronic volvulus. (I had to look this up because I had no idea what this is).

I was walking to the laundromat around the corner from my home, when I notice all balloons on the Century 21 store front. Then I noticed hundreds of people in the street, carrying big see through jars. All of them were wearing shorts and white tee shirts. They were stopping cars, stopping people, asking for donations. And right in front of Century 21 there were tables with food and people accepting donations. Then on the curb (and we are talking 10 people on each corner, so picture 40 people, stopping cars and telling people "we'll wash your car for a donation". Most of the people waved them by but a few stopped to get their car washed and give a donation.

When a girl walked up to me and said 'can you donate", of course the warning bells went off in my head, thinking "scam", so I asked my questions. The girl really didn't understand what the diagnosis was but she said "this girl needs a 4 organ transplant". I went up to the big white information board and sure enough, there was a photo of this young girl explaining what she has. The opening paragraph said "I've been diagnosed with a disease called Gastroparesis meaning that my stomach is paralyzed. I also have an intestinal disease called chronic. etc. etc."

Well, I read the whole page. This poor girl has been from hospital to hospital and she needs an operation. She will go to Pittsburgh Children Hospital. She will need a modified multi-visceral transplant which means a stomach, pancreas and small intestine. Oh my goodness.

Of course I gave a small donation. It seemed like half my neighborhood was out and stopping cars and people.

I took a look and the first thing that came to my mind was "this is a community and we help each other"

I hope this girl pulls through.

Just wanted to share

Yeah, I googled her name (just to make sure, that this was not a bunch of people trying to hoodwink everybody, but I said to myself "this is being sponsored by Century 21", and when I googled this girl's name, the whole story came up.

She is hopeing for a miracle. She can't eat anything solid right now and is down to 83 lbs.

I do hope they get to go to Pittsburgh Hospital. She's been to the Mayo Clinic and everything.

Thanks for your good wishes. Sending good energy her way.

Melody
