Coconut oil

Has anyone heard that 1/2 tsp. of coconut oil taken twice daily helps with Parkinson's?? I don't know the person at all who said this, but I'm curious just the same.

Thanks much ...

This originates with the story of Dr. Mary Newport who found that coconut oil helped her husband's Alzheimer's condition. That story dates back about 10 years, and resurfaces every once in awhile. You can Google it for more info.

Based on this "case study", there are some on a medical condition forum (sort of like this one) who decided to try coconut oil for PD. And they were taking far more than 1/2 tsp. Some of that talk eventually evolved into ketogenic diet discussions.

My take is that coconut oil is not going to hurt you...it was a regular staple of my diet for the first year after I was diagnosed with PD. I believe it helped my weight loss diet at the time, and shifting my metabolism to burn fat...but probably did nothing for PD.

I still eat it once every week or two...as part of a breakfast recipe that I enjoy.

It is said to be good for the gut.
