Little tricks...

In 1991, I could not get out of bed, my lower legs trembled so badly I could not walk. A friend brought me some pills...which seemed to help. Late in 1991 Dx w/ PD (but i could not have PD: I had loan payments, mortgage payments, the car leases, several alimony payments, my Friar Club dues and all the rest). I had to go to the bank, so a taxi left me about 10 steps from the bank...the taxi left...the trembling started again...@#$%^...but then there was a newspaper vending machine 2 steps away... you could make 2 steps... the sidewalk was cement with dividing markings (...to give the look of stone inlays). Looking ahead at these markings, instead of looking down, made it to the newspaper rack, still looking ahead at these markings, made it to the bank doors, then around the block. Could this be of use to other PWP?

You might have seen walkers or canes with a laser light at the bottom, and the person with PD is told to step either on the red light or over it.

An MDS said "you developed, or used, new neuro-pathways"

Are there other alternate or new neuro-pathways to develop? (hint

Mods: if it is not appropriate to use first person singular, or if I have violated some other rule...pull it.

Hi job1119, how are you doing these days? Seems as though you have had PD for a long time and are dealing successfully with it. I am in six years now and currently use no pharmaceutical meds though I have tried Selegeline, Amantadine and a dopamine agonist. However I am trying the Hinz protocol of balancing amino acids.. and I do deal with several PD related issues such as Bradykinesia, balance issues, etc. hopefully getting better when I achieve the right balance. It is an arduous process… Not to mention the PD! Hope to hear from you, thank you for sharing your experience.

Hi Job,
I use a laser light.
It makes a huge difference with my gait.
I often forget to switch it on but am soon reminded when my steps are inconsistent, dodgy or its scary for me to walk.
I find it amazing that such a simple device can make such a difference and have been using it to normalise my walking for a little over a yr now.
Cheers

Hi made it up,

Which laser light do you use (and how)? I tried the Vielight intranasal with no luck. I too have PD gait issues. Thanks!

Hi Arlon,
I have the laser light which I clip on when need be to my waist and point down at an angle for walking.
Also one permanently attached to a walking frame which steadies me and helps to get around during off time.
I click on the beam of light and find it gives me feet a steady step which I like to step on (the beam of light).
The beam can't be seen on sunny days outside but it works well in shade also indoors or night time.
The brand I have is The Cue.
There are other brands too.
They can also be attached to walking sticks.
Have you tried a little Levodopa to get you moving better?
Perhaps just 50mg once or twice a day might be all you need for now.
Best wishes
