Hi-
Has anyone tried this supplement for their PN? I have an idiopathic SFN and looking for an alternate treatment from what as i have been prescribed (Gabbapentin). I have read a couple of studies on PEA that sound promising. I am wondering about which brands are most reputable. Thanks!

The results I've found have led me to consider adding Palmitoylethanolamide
on a trial basis.

You're welcome. RS4 supplements has one called Pea Pure. Its $150 for a 3 month supply. It has good reviews. The studies I've read seem seem scientific and legit enough (ncbi etc) for me to want to go ahead and try it. Good luck to you.

It was originally called Normast, and originated in Italy, and moved to Netherlands. There is some speculation that the main researcher was "tainted" or fraudulent. But I couldn't find 100% confirmation about that, back then.

My impressions are that if it were SOOOOOO good, we'd hear about it today, everywhere, and that has not happened.

I believe that there are 2 people on NT who used (use) it.

My main concern is that this product is not very soluble. They start people off with under the tongue, nano particle product that is absorbed somewhat that way. Then they recommend an oral product, which I do believe is less soluble and effective and is less expensive too.

Here is a study done on animals that shows the micronized forms working better than non-micronized forms. (2014)

Micronized/ultramicronized palmitoylethanolamide displays superior oral efficacy compared to nonmicronized palmitoylethanolamide in a rat model of inflammatory pain

So solubility IS a factor, and if anyone here wants to try this PEA, then I'd suggest you get the micronized version.

I mostly work on large Phase III clinical trials. I've seen Normast listed as a concomitant medication for a handful of European patients. The indication was listed as pain if I remember correctly. I've always wondered it truly helped.
