Infection in the Tubing

Hi Everyone,
My son had a VP Shunt inserted when he was 2years and he is 10years old now. I would like any information or help what to do. he had a big red bump over his chest by the tubing, it happened again two days ago and this time I took him to the GP, where he confirmed that it was an infection in the tubing. He gave him antibiotics. it keeps coming back. The doctor said if the meds don't work or comes back again he needs to see his neuro. Has any1 had this before? I need to know what can happen, should I rather take him to his Neuro than to wait?:(

Hello Shantel: :welcome_sign: to NeuroTalk! May the time you spend here be of benefit. :Grin-Nod: I cannot speak to your concern. However, may I suggest you re-post this in one of the condition-specific forums? It is more likely to get a response there. I'm not certain which one would be best. One possibility might be the children's conditions forum:

Good luck! Hope your son is doing better soon. :)

Hi Shantel,

I am sorry to hear about what your son is going through. I'm sure you are worried. I am not a doctor by any means but a fellow Mom who worked in healthcare for many years. I think you are right to get specialty care. Shunt infections can be tricky to treat. If you can get in to Neuro quickly that makes more sense, especially if it is the doctor or group who placed the shunt. And by all means if your son worsens before you can get him seen, you can consider a trip to a pediatric ER if necessary.

I hope he finds healing soon,
