MalwareBytes / Overall Security
Hi ...
I'm new to C & T on this website. I hope someone can offer their guidance: I am operating on Windows 7; primarily use Google Chrome as a browser, and IE 11.0 as a back-up when I can't open/load things on Google Chrome. I bought the premium MWBytes last year; then in Feb (I think it was) they put out a new version which ended up giving me problems. Per their instructions, I uninstalled their new version and went back to the old version. Now they are hounding me to install a different new version - which I'm leery about. My "contract" with them is up in a few days, so now I'm considering going with a total online security suite, but not sure which ones .... I think MWBytes was bought-out by another company; consequently their customer service is not what it used to be. Is it necessary to have another security program other than Malware detection? I have a very basic MS Security Essentials also ... but I know the protection with this is very minimal. BTW, I have not encountered any problems with my computer, and I'm hyper-aware of emails/programs, etc. that I open. Any suggestions will be greatly appreciated! Thank you. |
Some security products I've used in the past ( I use Linux now, not Windows) -
Free Internet Security | Why Comodo Internet Security Suite for PC? They also have more secure browser options - one like Chrome & one like Firefox.. Secure Web Browser | Fastest Free Dragon Browser from Comodo Comodo IceDragon Browser | Download Free Internet Browser I also used a paid internet security suite back when many virus, worms, trojans & malware were in the news..I had Win XP Back then. When time to renew came around they offered a nice discount & it was for 3 computers so it was worth it at the time.. I did use the 30 day trials of all the top security - some I didn't care for the format and some were draggy on my system.. But that wa s10 yrs ago , so I'm sure some formats have changed. But most of the top ones are still in the top 10 lists.. almost all let you do a free trial period , then uninstall and try another.. back then the Norton product was hard to fully remove, so I would avoid it for that reason, might not be the case now tho..Bit defender may have been fiddly too back then.. some comparison lists - If you click the link to each product you should see the free trial offers- The Best Security Suites of 217 | PCMag.com Best Internet Security Software of 217 (Total Protection Bundles) http://www.toptenreviews.com/softwar...ites-software/ You should be able to see a few screen shots @ each site too, so you can see the format, some are not as easy to navigate, some are. Kaspersky seemed to have a lot of settings, but you can just run it as it comes without digging into those.. |
I currently use ESET Security for my internet sec program. It was pretty cheap. Not by price alone, but by its features. I was looking for something that was less invasive on my pc's resources. Personally I despise Norton McAfee and avg. I was a devoted avg user a few yrs ago but there software became more bloated with unnecessary features which I wasn't interested in.

I use the paid version of MalwareBytes and Chrome, running under Windows 10 Professional.
This combination works well for me. |
