yesterday I could hardly walk

I walked too much the day before so yesterday I walked across the street and almost fell down their stairs and hobbled home and spent the rest of the day crawling. this morning i can walking again. I feel sad. when i tried p.t. after a while after those two places i felt worse.

OhKay 04-23-2017 06:44 AM

That happens to me a lot when I over do it. Sometimes it makes me sad, too. It's hard to live with realization that you have limitations :hug::hug:

Try to listen to your body. Be extra careful the day after you've already had a lot of exercise because you will be weak

I'm sorry you are feeling sad, Bobby. But I'm happy that you are okay :hug::hug:

mymorgy 04-23-2017 07:37 AM

this is what happened in p.t. I got worse the more I did. I thought they didn't know what they were doing. Is this going to be for me for the rest of my life?
I used to love to read. That is good. You are so young!
Love

hi bobby,
I started pt for my hip and back and neck so they have given me exercises to do at home on the bed. I do them twice a day.
When I took that yoga class I learned a couple of stretches that I still do. feels good to open up my body. But I have stretched something in my back too much and it is sore today, right underneath my shoulder blade.
The exercises take 5-10 minutes to do them so that is a small investment. Each time I go I get some more exercises to do, a print out with pictures. He tried to adjust/crack my back and could not it was frozen: not good. He wants me to work on my posture.
To start with, Could there be some simple stretches touch toes, hug your knees flatten your back and roll back and forth on the bed?

i don't know if that would work for me. I need to strengthen my muscles but when I try to strengthen my muscles after a point, they weaken and hurt and i go backwards in progress..

bizi 04-23-2017 08:38 AM

one of the exercise they have me do is simply standing against the wall facing the wall and reaching up over my head with my palms on the wall and shrugging my shoulders and reaching up as high as I can go and hold for 5 seconds. I have a lot of tension in my shoulders and back. This helps open me up.

I am working on better posture too.
my muscles are not used to this and I can tell that I have been doing exercises and am sore, but this will get better and the exercises will get easier to do them. On the bed is so much nicer than on the floor.:)

my balance is poor. they want me to start standing on one foot and balancing, hold for 15 seconds then switch legs. That is very hard for me to do.
He told me I was a high risk for falls.

i think i am going to call the neurologist soon. My spelling is going downhill too.
I am so afraid.what if i am outside and i have to crawl? I am so tired.

Bobby

Try an cane, see if that helps you. I have a cane that physical therapy told
me I needed to keep with me as much as possible. I'm pretty sure I'll
need to start using as much as possible soon.

oops, also meant to tell you guys that I've had things to do from PT also. I remember a lot of my
exercises. I have a band that I stretch to have better strength in my arms or legs. I also have
exercises that need a chair or door. And when I do the one leg ones I'm to use a chair to hang on to.

I use a cane a lot especially if I am not just going across the street. The other day my legs wouldn't support myself. I couldn't stand at all. It was very frightening. Today I looked at Walmart's at those mobile whatever in case it becomes a frequent occurrence. Loosing the ability to walk is really scary

bizi 04-23-2017 08:53 PM

yes bobby, calling and making an appointment is a good idea.

I'm a little concerned that you have had a couple of these occurrences so close together. Sometimes that can happen if there is something going on medically… Are you feeling okay otherwise? Are you still withdrawing from coffee?

I have had to go to PT repeatedly in the past for "tune ups." Sometimes it's because I've had a relapse, but sometimes it's just because I need to strengthen my muscles or correct other problems. When I do PT, I do most of it in a pool. Sometimes I do not even "graduate" to dry land.

PT is different for everyone.

I don't think you had the best PT experiences tho, Bobby. I think you probably were overworked. So I don't necessarily think that you've drained the PT well yet. Maybe you could see some improvement if you went to a place with a pool, or at least where the PTs have a lot of experience with stroke patients who could assess and treat you properly…. when/if you are ready to try again.

That being said, it's likely that you will have to deal with some kind of limitations because of the stroke. I know that it a really hard thing to accept, and I'm really sorry, Bobby :hug::hug:
But I think that you are right, and should speak with your neurologist about this… about what you should expect, and should do, going forward. Your leg did improve more than she anticipated, and there is a chance that you may get better still…

Please be careful…
Love to you :hug::hug::hug:

I looked in the area and there were no places for stroke victims and I can't afford cabs twice a week. when Marcia is over I will try a little of the bicycle.
I will not push myself. I spoke with a friend last night and she had the same experiences that these places want to make money so they overwork you to overcharge you.I looked last night for more places but they didn't mention strokes or pools

I didn't want to but i made an appt to see the neurologist next wed at 10:30.
I hope this doesn't lead to a lot of tests and she just says I overdid it

bizi 04-24-2017 11:15 AM

in 2 days or next week?
I am glad you made the appointment.

next week. i wanted to wait

OhKay 04-25-2017 08:31 AM

I don't think there are many places that specialize in treating stroke patients, but I meant they should have a lot of experience with them since so many stroke patients are referred to PT.

I'm glad that you made the appointment. I don't expect her to refer you for a lot of tests. She will probably base her opinion on her exam, whatever you relate to her about how you feel and your experience at PT, and any notes they may have sent her, if any :hug::hug:

I made a mistake in the heading. I couldn't walk on saturday. my legs wouldn't support my body. I have been fine since but I have only taken short walks and few. I will tell her I am afraid and afraid to go any distance

mymorgy 04-25-2017 12:34 PM

my legs are weaker again

bizi 04-25-2017 03:05 PM

This is not good, could you get in sooner?

Mari 04-25-2017 05:29 PM

Glad to hear you are seeing the Neurologist.

OhKay 04-27-2017 08:42 AM

Please keep those walks short, and walk with someone else whenever possible. I'm sorry you are having these problems, Bobby. I'm glad you are seeing the doctor :hug::hug:
