Premature ventricular contraction and Mg2+
Recently my partner was diagnosed with PVA. She saw her GP first, who fitted her up with a 24/7 monitor. On looking at that he referred her to a cardiologist.
After a very detailed investigation (about 10 hours) she said that there was nothing to be concerned about and recommended taking Mg2+ as a supplement (500 mg/day as the citrate salt) - it is working well. As an aside, the cardiologist was an enthusiast for omega-3 supplements though she did suggest eating oily fish as well (which we do). My partner noticed some improvement in mild RA-like signs in her fingers after taking a omega-3 supplement. Although this is technically an open-label test she did not know about this beforehand so placebo can probably be discounted - see Omega-3 fatty acids | University of Maryland Medical Center - it seems that they can reduce symptoms but not slow progression - we and our health care team are watching this. It was good to find a health specialist who combines excellent clinical skills with recommending evidence-based use of supplements. |
