anti cholesterol meds and PN
 
anyone on this forum relate their peripheral neuropathy to use of anti cholesterol meds (statins) such as lipitor, zocor, pravachol? thanks in advance, madelyn

I know how i feel on them,awfull so i've never taken any long enough.
But i really believe they can. :( Sue

They can also cause muscle degeneration. My friend was having terrible muscle pain on them and found that this was the cause. It can be life threatening. The drug company says it is a rare side effect, but I wonder. Anyone who takes it should watch for signs of PN or muscle pain.

Some researchers are exploring whether people who develop muscle problems may have undiagnosed neuropathy and be more susceptible to damage from the statins.

As mrsd says, someday there's going to be one heck of a scandal as aresult of pushing those drugs on so many people who do not benefit from them and are risking harm.

Statins really are bad for me. I changed to Zetia over 2 yrs ago because of s/e with Lipitor. (Mrs D put me onto Zetia waay before they started the TV ads.)
