Upper jaw implant pain

I am an experienced dental surgeon and 12 months ago I placed an implant in upper bicuspid region. The patient has had severe and intractable facial and upper jaw pain ever since even after the implant was removed. Various pain specialists and surgeons are not able to tell me what has caused the pain or what went wrong as it was a simple straightforward case. The patient is presently seeking legal advice.
Has anyone heard of this type of pain before?
Is it common as I had never heard of it before in the upper jaw.
It is quite common and well documented in the lower jaw

It could be that there is something else going on somewhere relating to the upper jaw. Perhaps the nerve itself.

Yes I have heard of upper jaw nerve pain before. Although implants aren't the only procedure causing it. My lingual nerve was damaged in 2001 during third molar extraction. Why would you mention that being common occurrence.... How many other people did you injure during your career as an experienced dental surgeon?
