Head pressure a month after hitting head?

Hey guys, a month ago I went sandboarding and wiped out bad, tumbled and landed on my neck. No loss of consciousness just felt shocked but I was fine after. The next day I had a mild headache which lessened with Acetaminophen. It subsided after about a week so I went to work out at the gym but the next day it felt like a tension headache, so I went to the ER where a physical exam came back negative for any medical emergency and the doctor was confident I had to brain injury.

Since then the headaches have lessened but occasionally I will feel slightly pressure around the back of the head to the temples. This is the only symptom I had and I got really anxious about it, to the point of hypochondria.

Could this be post concussive syndrome or just anxiety? Thanks for reading!

Hello Naitsirhc: I cannot comment with regard to your concern. However I'm certain there will be other members here who will. I see this is your first post here on NT though. So... welcome to NeuroTalk. I trust you will find the time you spend here to be of benefit. :)

My son is post concussion 8 weeks and still getting some headaches. He injured his neck at the same time. I asked his concussion/sports specialist yesterday how can we tell if ongoing headaches are from head or neck? As both were clearly a factor previously. He felt quite confident that the headaches now are from his neck as they are centred at the back of his skull. Whereas he said concussion headaches come from the front and down the sides. Also my son's cognitive symptoms seem to have resolved, which is the other important indicator of concussion rather than musculoskeletal issues, so he is starting a graduated medically supervised return to sport. Note concussion doesn't usually show up on MRI or CT. I suggest if you have concerns you ask your doctor for a referral to a sports specialist doctor with expertise in concussion (some people also see neurologists specialising in concussion/headaches).

good luck

Thanks for your reply! I hope your son recovers soon! What kind of cognitive symptoms was your son displaying?

I noticed that I have a few knots in my neck muscles which are tender to the touch and shoot pressure into my head when massaged. This leads me to think it's neck strain that's causing the pressure.
