Need Advice Please

I don't post all the time but I'm not sure what else to do. This autonomic part of the neuropathy is getting to me. I sweat so much now, only on really on my head.

I practically live with a fan on me at all time and with a towel. It's gross. It's so embarrassing at work to have a towel on me all the time. I don't even bother doing my hair.

Has anyone been like this or have any suggestions?

Thanks,
HB

Many medications cause increased sweating.

I get sweating from caffeine.

Hi, hbielski1905.

I went through a long period of sweating from my head. I would be sitting still and suddenly sweat was pouring from my head, sliding down the front of my face, dripping off the ends of my (short) hair and falling in cold drops on my neck.

This went on for about 6 years, then it stopped. I don't know why it stopped. I still sweat from my head only when I am very hot or exercising. But the terrible head sweating for no apparent reason left as suddenly as it started.

Of course, I didn't notice when it left so much as I did when it started.

It is very embarrassing. I hadn't changed medications or OTC supplements, either, when it started or when it stopped.

I still get very hot most of the time. i want the AC on much colder than my husband wants it. And I love Winter, here in NC. My husband has an extra blanket on his side of the bed, but I don't need it. I also always want the ceiling fan on. Winter and Summer.

I know when I feel cold everyone else is in hypothermia!

Regards, ElaineD

Funny, I hardly sweat and I'm 79 very soon. Maybe I did more in my dancing years but now hardly hardly at all. I take very very few meds so maybe that is a lot of it. Don't know and also maybe the grape seed extract for 22 yrs supports me there too.

I have autonomic neuropathy also, and some summers I have the issue of sweating from my head only. The first year, my scalp was drenched all over. The next year the sweating was only on the back of my head, and 2 rivers of sweat would stream down the back of my neck. Another year, only my forehead. I've been using a "cooling towel" which helps quite a bit. It's a thin, smooth cloth that you get wet, wring out, and put around your neck. It doesn't drip, although it will get your clothes damp where it touches them. If I put it on before I get really hot, it keeps my head a lot cooler. I also use the ends of it to pat my forearms or face; when you first wet it, it feels really cold. They gradually dry out and have to be re-wet periodically. They come in different sizes and shapes. I use one that's long and narrow like a scarf. I can see using it in an office and not looking too weird.

Hi!
I found this fan on the bed, bath and beyond website. It's small and goes with you. I think Smazon has it too. It called th o2 cool fan. I know someone who has it and she said it works really well.

Hey HB :)

I totally understand what you are going through. I sweat the same way. All from the HEAD....very frustrating. I start sweating sometimes when I'm doing nothing but Sitting ! I mean what the heck ?

I'm usually in the bedroom but when I move to another room I take my big floor fan with me.

I lost all my hair in 2013 due to chemo and I swear if I looked like Demi Moore when she was bald in that movie I'd keep my head shaved. But sadly I'm not attractive and without hair it's even worse !
lol

I am on disability due to my SFN damage so I'm not in the workplace but I'm sorry you are having to deal with that. I have realized that if I can work myself up to dry my hair with a blow dryer after I shower I can handle the sweating hair a little better than letting it air dry.

And my daughter bought me one of those cooling towels and I never opened it but I am right now !

Best of luck to you and I'll continue to follow this thread in hopes someone will come along with an amazing fix for this !

And thanks for all the commenters that took time to send a note on this subject.

Take care,

Debi from Georgia
