Question for mrsD

I had the genetic mapping done and I am working with a nutritionist that is part of the MTHFR.net started in May 2017 I am compound heterogeneous for the C677T and A1298C

I was on PPI for 7 years and 1 year ago I had blood test for B12 and my Dr. said it was normal @ 350.

I have been diagnosed with SFPN thru skin punch biopsy in November 2016 but had symptoms for over a year prior

January 2017 I started taking supplements based on recommendations on this web site. B12, CoQ-10, Zinc, DHA, EPA...ect

The nutritionist had me do the Spectra Cell test to see what my numbers are now.

What came back was surprising.
Deficient in B12 and I am taking (5mg Methl/day)
Deficient in Zinc
Deficient in Glutamine
Deficient in Glutathione
Deficient in COQ-10
Deficient in Selenium
Total Antioxidant Function Deficient
EPA Deficient
DHA Deficient

My Question for you mrsD is could my SFPN have been caused by the low B12 and the inability to detoxify because of the deficient Antioxidant Function caused by the Mutations

I started doing Hot Yoga and for the next couple days after my symptoms are greatly reduced.

My Nutritionist feels that the combination of the mutations and the low b12 I was not able to methylate which caused mal-absorption of nutrition thus the slow onset of the SFPN.

She has me on the better COQ-10, Digestive Enzymes because of the low DHA and EPA, more ZINC, Spiralia, D/K2, Rhodiola, Fermented foods, Probiotics, Prebiotics plus I went Gluten Free 7 months ago working on getting good gut health.

We are going to do another test in October to see where the numbers are

She was surprised that I was deficient in all of those things even though I was taking them, She said I must have been a mess and would have like to see the number prior to me taking the supplements.

Why don’t our Dr’s do these tests and tell us to work with a nutritionist….to get healthy it just ****** me OFF!

My GP just blows it off as not a issue

Comments would be appreciated

Malabsorption is really a big factor with proton pump inhibitors.

They affect zinc, iron, (are you anemic?), magnesium, folate (methylfolate because of the MTHFR), methylB12, and perhaps other + and ++ions like copper, etc.

Glutamine is very helpful for some people. You'd need at least a gram a day. This might heal your intestinal wall. I'd suggest
going gluten free also. Gluten can inflame the intestional wall and cause malabsorption. Watch out for too much zinc... as too much may create neuropathy all by itself. Bluesfan was poisoned with zinc by her doctor! Some is okay, but too much is problematic. This can easily be tested for --get a zinc/copper ratio... as they are partners and need to be watched.

Make sure you take the methylB12 on an empty stomach for best absorption.

Doctors' attitudes towards nutrients depends on when they were in medical school, and where. This was just not taught in the past and some current schools still don't educate doctors properly.
Attitudes persist about using drugs willy nilly too by patients who want an easy solution. Got some heartburn? Take a PPi forever for it is the lazy solution, sadly.

PPis also inhibit absorption of protein (amino acids). Low protein levels then may create malabsorption of amino acids which repair the GI tract.

I am not anemic, I take the b12 on a empty stomach, the weird thing is my copper is normal but Zinc is deficient, I have been gluten free for 7 months and doing so also cut out all the fast food, junk food, and sugar drinks we were eating some organic now we eat all organic and I exercise more I am 6'2" and weighed 227 in January now I am 200lbs. After hot yoga I do this 3 time a week I have less symptoms. In February I could not wear socks up my lower legs with out weird sensations now I can with out any weird sensations.
I know if I am healing it take time and I am controlling what I can with healthy life style choices and I feel better.

Thanks
