Toradol
Is anyone here taking Toradol? Do you mind me asking some questions about it?
|
I took it post surgery, it is really just like taking 800MG ibuprofen every 6 hours. You don't want to take it long term because it can give you an ulcer or any of the other painful stomach and health issues that come with NSAIDS.
However, that said it was great for pain while i was taking it. I believe manufacturer says no more than 5 days, but my surgeon had me continue for two weeks. Nuerologist told me to quit after that because the long term safety of the narcotics is actually much higher. (no risk of heart issues or stomach ulcers) |
Thanx!
Seeing how Toradol is a non-narcotic, that's why I have been on it...far too long really...before surgery, post surgery, etc, etc...
Thanx...that is what I thought...I have been concerned about long term use of it and expressed that to my doc but she said it was fine...grrrrrr...then about 3 weeks ago my stomach hurt a LOT...so I stopped taking it...which is part of my roller coaster pain ride I am going through...stomach feels better so that is good...kills me that a pharmacy will dispense 100 tablets of these things at a time when they aren't for long term use... |
I rec. that you ask a pharmacist. I had it for a diff surgery but it helped my neck pain. It was administered first by a shot, followed by IV and then by pills. I felt so much better! I was told that it could be used occasionally but with the limits you mention. My insurance and dr were able to extend the short time limit of use a few times and luckily it didn't cause any problems. I sure wish there was something like Torodol that didn't cause the side efx.

in fairness-I think Dr J is very conservative about ibuprofen. I know there are others who have taken long term NSAIDS...just a matter of risks outweighing the benefits. Probably good that you stop now, but not terribly likely you have done yourself permenant harm yet- but if your stomach is hurting you should be really careful in the future.
yes, i wish there was a safe toradol- :( |
I can only receive 10 Toradol for three months. I wish I could get the hundred. Just so I had them for the eyar instead of filling co-pays.
I use this when the Advils @ 4 won;t work, when the Excidrine Migraine won;t work, when I am in a flare. If a terrible flare, the kind to see a doctor or ER, the IV or shot is a kick butt anti inflamatory to help reslove nerve pain flare narcotics won't touch. The first time we has it used was in an ER, after shots of demerol not helping a flare from a BAD IME raising an arm and turniing it, I asked the doc about Toradol I had for an ER migrain flare up. They gave it to her and in ten minutes the migraine and arm flare freom He!! was letting up Toradol long term must be a kliller....I would hang onto them, they are gold, but I find that one oxycodone 5 mg/325 helps me with getting on top of most flares, also a valium. Maybe you could talk to him of using valium as an anti muscle spasm...it is the only TRUE anti muscle spasm med!!!!! As long as there is no abuse doc's generally are find as it is not narcotic, I take a 10 mg a day, sometimes a half, sometimes whole, or 1 and then a 1/2 if in a flare. Lidoderm patches, biofreeze, I use Ice on myneck or "Hump" are of C spine. Talk over the problems of stomach, and try something less aggrivating. Di |
Hi J
Hi J,
Marc ....the wonderful...lol has jsut informed me when I asked how long to be on it and he said...ready for this one....NOT TOO LONG..... I think it's not good for the stomach...dhuuuuuuuh!! sorry babe....my two cents oh and he also says follow up with your oh so knowlageable pharmacist....make sure to go to a real pharmacy not one that starts with an S or second letter D .....you get it I hope...... lots of love, V:hug:  |
Torodol was the only thing that helped the pain after my last foot surgery- Vicodin then Demerol didn't help enough. But, I have a question for anybody who knows more about it than I do- why does it say not to take it unless you've had an injection of it first? I do remember reading that it was VERY bad for the stomach and not to take it over 5 days, which is all the podiatrist gave me anyway.

Thanx everyone! Now at least I have somewhere to start with my doc. I definately know since I stopped taking it my stomach feels better but of course now I am in more pain *sigh*
Vic - I find the whole pharmacy thing funny really...and what is even funnier is that my extended drug coverage is so **** about perscriptions (I can only get 100 gabapentin at a time even if I need more then that for a month - despite the claims I can have 100 days of a 'maintenance' drug) yet they will refill 100 Toradol every month if that is what is written...oh well...you know how my battles for meds go - wish me luck. I figure if all else fails hopefully I can talk her into sending me to a pain clinic. |
I have gotten Toradol as an injection a couple of times in the ER. It was given instead of Valium because I was there alone and had to drive home. It worked great.
Has anyone ever tried Soma/ Carisprodol? I have been taking it for spasms for a couple of years now. It does take the edge off of the pain, but that is about it. I was wondering about Soma vs. Valium? Does Valium seem to work for a lot of people? |
