Pray for my Daughter!!!

My autistic daughter, Sally, has to have a CT scan on her ear tomorrow. About 5 years ago she had surgery for a Cholesteotoma of the middle ear. That is a non-malignant growth that can work it's way through the ear and can destroy the bones, etc.

She had flawless surgery without any complications. The doctor who has her case now is a very good ENT Specialist, but for some reason thinks it needs to be looked at closer this time. Up until now he has just been cleaning out the middle ear.

Thursday, we will find out what he says.

Me, I am scared spitless! I know, not supposed to be, but she is my daughter.

PLEASE PRAY!

Judy

I'm rather new to neurotalk Judy, but indeed a strong Christian and know all about the power of prayer. It's a mom thing, we naturally become scared whenever our kids are having to go through ANY sort of trauma type situation. A few prayers coming your way that all goes well and that the ENT is just using some "new and improved" ways of testing since the last was done.

Hey Everyone,

You are all so encouraging, and I really appreciate it. I think this is actually the best board there is for a combination of prayer support and understanding.

Thank you so much. I will keep you informed. :grouphug:

Thank you all for your prayers and encouragement.

Sally had the CT scan yesterday, and the doctor looked at it today. He believes that she does need the surgery. A Cholesteatoma is a non-cancerous growth of the middle ear. As I said before, she did have surgery on this before about 5 years ago. The ENT Specialist that she has now is very thorough and is a very good surgeon. He has been watching this for a while as well as cleaning out the ear, but apparenty there was part of the cholesteatoma that was either not removed last time (by a different doctor) or it has just started to grow back from further back in her ear and was slowly growing outward so that he could see that something had changed.

A hearing test was done, and we now realize that she is completely deaf in her right ear. The doctor believes that he may be able to restore some of the hearing and may even implant the bones that have been destroyed from his growth. We are talking about microscoptic surgery.

My daughter, by the way, is an adult, but not verbal enough to let us know how bad her hearing was. She has Autism. Rather than have her answer to beeps, the doctor had her point to pictures in a book, then we realized that she could hear nothing out of the right ear.

I believe that surgery is the way to go. It will probably be very soon but has not been scheduled yet. I will let you know when it is scheduled. It could do her a lot of good, but it is a very delicate operation in which a lot of things can go wrong. (The is the scary part)

Thanks for taking the time to read all of this. I will update you all as soon as I know when the surgery is going to be.

Judy
