trouble walking when you are older
my friend alice says that part of my problem when walking after eating when it is warm is from dehydration which occurs with older people. she says she gets dizzy.
from mayo clinic "Older adults. As you age, your body's fluid reserve becomes smaller, your ability to conserve water is reduced and your thirst sense becomes less acute. These problems are compounded by chronic illnesses such as diabetes and dementia, and by the use of certain medications. Older adults also may have mobility problems that limit their ability to obtain water for themselves." |
Can you recall how much water you are drinking?
I guess it is recommended to drink 64oz a day which is alot I know and hard for me to drink unless I really try to remember to do that. I have a gallon jug in my car. In between clients I try to drink some. There is controversy about whether we get to count coffee in those 64 oz. I think we do.:) bizi |
Bizi,
Yes, coffee counts as liquid. We have absolutely ZERO evidence that we need eight ounces of of eight cups of water a day. No, You Do Not Have to Drink 8 Glasses of Water a Day - The New York Times No, You Do Not Have to Drink 8 Glasses of Water a Day Drink when you are thirsty. M |

One way I remember to drink water
When I wake up, I fill up about 4 or more cups (depending) of water and line them
up on the counter I look at the end of the day to see that I emptied the cups. On work days, I carry water in 16 ounce bottles and try to drink two bottles at work and some more water when I get home. If I am eating lots of fruit or other liquids, I count those of course. M |

I hear you loud and clear Mari!
wonder why it posted so many times? bizi |
What I worry about with that liquid recommendation is that a lot of trips to the bathroom may not be a good thing for people who have mobility problems...
Especially at night when falls are more likely. |

You are so correct with that. I try to drink as much water as I can a day. I drink the bottles and I usually make the 64ozs. I try to end early enough that the normal one time at night to get up is what I do. Sometimes its more. But almost always once. Donna :grouphug::hug: |
