short term memory loss getting worse

my short term memory loss is getting worse as the days go on. i am now forgetting whether i took a shower, brushed my teeth, made/drank a tea, etc. get up to do something and totally forget what it was. i find it's a *tad worse on days with little sleep, but even on days with a full sleep, it's like a 10-20 times a day thing.
1.3 months after my last concussion & this is getting worse?

also, i can't concentrate on anything...it's like i've developed a horrible case of adhd.

mind you my history is a bit different than most (not all), in that i've had a steady stream of concussions due to violence/mental health issues over the past nearly two decades.

time + number of concussions = a very badly damaged brain, i assume.

i'd also like to know if anyone else out there has purposely smashed their own heads? on top of all of the beatings i received, i also used to wail myself repeatedly in the side of the head when angry. could these have been concussions in themselves? if so, i'm up in the range of like 30 concussions...

i fear i have dementia setting in...

As you note, sleep is an issue. I bet that even your better nights sleep are not as beneficial as they could be. Full sleep does not mean good sleep. Quality of sleep makes a huge difference.

Your environment can make a big difference in ability to focus and remember. Too much distraction can interrupt the storing of memories.

I have lived with limited short term memory function for 17 years. Life can still go on. It takes a lot of effort for me to remember what I have done the previous day and sometimes just this morning. At one time, I'd forget to do the paper work after using the toilet. I had to learn to purpose to remember to act. I cannot rely on subconscious direction.

The key concept to work on is quite simple.

We need to learn to "Stop to think" That means we need to shut out the distractions so we can receive information and process it and store it to memory if needed.

Regarding your self hits. It does not matter if they were concussions. You can't change what happened. Defining it with medical terms does not change anything. The only thing that matters is now. How are you choosing to live a better life without the self-harm ?

I'm at 14 concussions, one was very serious. LOC, slurred speech, hospitalization.... But, I look at them as contributors to my condition not definers of my condition.

fun fact, the side of the head is roughly where the temporal lobe is, which is responsible for memory functions.

I also have a history of hitting myself in the head when angry. I wish I would have just stabbed/cut myself as I would be in much better shape. Lord knows how many concussions I actually sustained. I have seen significant improvement in 6 months time though.

I am sorry to read that. I stopped doing it a few years ago, but unfortunately 1) i've suffered a few more concussions since (beatings), 2) the damage is already done.

I hope you're feeling better.
