Thermal induced shaking
 

I was diagnosed with pd 12 years ago. Slight tremor in the left arm. Difficulty swallowing. The symptoms were mild for the first 10 years. But now my right arm is joining the party. And the most unexpected symptom is that when I wake up, if the house temperature is colder than usual (60 degrees or less), my whole body starts shaking dramatically including my mouth in which my teeth clack together so loudly that I think I'm going to break off a tooth -- or several. Anyone else have this following sleep? Any way that you have been able to alleviate it?

Since getting PD I've been less able to deal with cold temperatures. I get the whole body shivers that you describe if I get too cold.

I suspect that this is fairly common amongst PwP. Hood and Amir write [1]:

"The human core body temperature rhythm rises throughout the day to peak in the early evening, then falls throughout the night to reach its nadir in the early morning ... In PD, only the amplitude of the rhythm appears to be decreased. This change is attributed to a lowering of peak body temperature relative to healthy age-matched controls."

what is your avg body temp? i'm hypothermic which my neuro says is pd related, my avg body temp is 97.3 but can go down to 96.0. but i don't feel that cold, strange. sorry can't offer any advice.

Ah the cold! I avoid getting cold as it exacerbates all my symptoms, especially tremors.

I've never measured it -- though my wife and two cats call me Billy BTU since I seem to generate a lot of heat and they all strategize ways to get closer at night.

Oh boy. I am seriously considering moving to NC from FL. I am in NC now, having evacuated south Florida. I never really had a "test" with regards to thermal issues. I hope I won't be horribly sensitive to the cold in NC because it does get cold here in NC during winter, whereas I never got cold in FL. I lived there for about 15 years. Still undecided about moving, though. I do loathe hurricanes. I went through Wilma and never want to see something like that again.

Cold isn't good for me...starts a whole body tremor and leg pain. I start wearing long John underwear and heavy knee socks when temperature gets to 60 F
