I looked up one recipe for black cake.

This one has fruit and rum and wine:

it is to die for! at first I couldn't figure out what it was made of. I had never tasted anything like it. I didn't have it with frosting. I think it would have been too rich. already it was so rich with the liquor etc. buy one!

Seems simple enough... and delicious :)
I don't drink, but will cook with alcohol. I may try the first recipe sometime when I am up to it.

Vanilla cakes have given me the most trouble in the past, but maybe it is just the recipes I have used.

Maybe I will bake something soon. When I take things slow, it can be relaxing and therapeutic for me. I will consider making this recipe, but will run it by Corey first.

Tell us how the cake tastes. I hope you love it.

The cake MIX reminds me of the Christmas cakes my relatives used to make a few months before the holidays. It calls for pouring rum over the completely cooked cake.
The rum preserves the cake but it also adds alcohol content --
if you are not used to it.
