Using a hair clipper?
Hello everyone,
Does anyone have some thoughts to share about the use of a clipper for a haircut? Should I avoid that as a PCS sufferer? I found that going to the hairdresser is a dreadful experience (I know that anxiety doesn't help), and it usually sets me back for at least a few days. Even if I skip the shampoo, insist that she only uses scissors, and explain my issues in detail, the hairdresser is never careful enough for my sensitive head. I am thus considering cutting my hair at home myself with a clipper, but I am wondering whether the vibrations of the clipper can be dangerous for a concussed brain. Thank you in advance for any advice (and sorry for the poor English). Vania |
I had the same propblems early on, its gotton better after 10 years.....I think you have the right idea!
The noise and vibration never set well with me...Now I get a hair cut once or twive a year, and yes its getting long. Good luck and post how you do. |
I had the the same problem. I bought clippers and cut my own hair. The vibrations are taxing but you do get use to it. The other problem I have is it puts strain on my eyes so I feel that a bit. I think you have the right idea with cutting your own hair.

Went through the same thing but forced myself to believe no harm could come from such a thing.
I had to learn to separate discomfort from harm and there were times early on it was uncomfortable for clippers to be around were my skull was rebuilt but no harm was incurred. Bud |
Thanks a lot to the three of you for sharing your experience.
Bud, if I understand you correctly, you do it yourself (you don't go to the hairdresser for this), is that correct? |
I go to a barbershop.
I didn't for awhile as my head was shaved for surgery and I was home for 10 months and was freaked out about infection from community barber equipment, unnecessarily so. It took a little courage to allow someone to work around my head, but I explained my fear and trepidation, there was most certainly some discomfort but all is well these days. Bud |
