alcohol

I don't get the red flushing some have mentioned, but one glass of wine last night and today my eyes are weak, as well as legs and hands -- any thoughts?

Nikos, Alcohol doesn't just sedate someone. Alcohol binds to the acetylcholine (ACh) receptors, making it even harder for ACh to get to the muscles! That is why alcohol can be so detrimental to people with MG.

Alcohol can also have delayed effects. Please be careful! Some people can go into a crisis after consuming any alcohol. Some people who are on good treatments and are relatively stable can have alcohol.

If you ever wonder what effects something has on MG, search "blank + acetylcholine" and you will find out!

If you aren't better, please call your neuro or go in.

Take care!

Annie

thank you Annie - I did the search for alcohol and acetylcholine - and have made the decision not to drink alcohol --just two days and I feel 100% better. thanks again.
