Neurontin Vs Lyrica

I need peoples opinion on Neurontin Vs Lyrica . I've been on Neurontin for several of months
now,900mg daily,I still have allot of pain ,and it still makes me sleepy. I want to know if Lyrica is better on managing pain then Neurontin? Robert;)

I'm very interested in how these two drugs work too. I just started on Lyrica and while I'm not up to speed with the dosage I am already experiencing some relief with my fibromyalgia. Some years ago I tried neurontin but wasn't sure it was worth the expense. Now Lyrica is over 10 times as much as Neurontin on my HMO plan so I'm considering trying that instead.

I'd be happy to receive direct emails about this. I am new here.

I was on both not at the same time. The issue for me was I started both at to high of a dose. I'm also very sensitive. Lyrica is more expensive but I heard as a lot of the similarities to neurontin. I do know its about getting to the right dose and differs greatly from person to person. Is yours nerve pain? I would ask your doc or maybe you need an increase on the neurontin or another drug in addition.

Hi Robert

Welcome to Neurotalk. Here is the link to the PN group in case you haven't seen it http://neurotalk.psychcentral.com/fo...lay.php?f=20en

Lyrica is a derivative of Neurontin. It is about 6X stronger, i.e. instead of 900mg Neurontin you use 150mg lyrica. It has been working well for many people. It has been getting a reputation for causing weight gain. In my particular case, Neurontin works better. You can take much more than 900mg/day. Although if it is making you drozy that might not work out.

There are many other "atypical" pain relievers, i.e. Cymbalta, Elavil, Pamelor...
Some people use combinations of the "atypical" and moe usual painkillers. It really depends on the individual case.:grouphug:

Lyrica

I heard that Lyrica is the big brother to Neurontin , same family . Still causes weight gain and dizzyness.

You are on a low dose of Neurontin , you can go up . I was on 3600 mg aday but did quit it due to weight gain. I am on Keppra now

Hi. I'm sorry so late in my reply. I forget about this forum I usually post on the pn. Anyhow well for me I started both too high and the Lyrica just made me feel so bad I never wanted to try again. The neurontin I tried again at lower dose. I felt so much pressure in my head that wouldn't go and I was at a low dose. I heard I would have to get to such a high dose and couldn't imagine so we tried cymbalta. I agree people are on high doses so I would ask your doc. Also there are other med's like the posters said. On another note when are you taking the med cause sometimes timing can help. I also broke it up when I was on it. Good luck
