Extraction growth?

1 Attachment(s)
Hi there! I'm new to this site and I am an otherwise healthy thirty-six-year-old mom (well I say healthy but I have autoimmune issues). Anyway I recently had to lower back molars extracted. Everything went fine but about 8 Days post extraction I started noticing a veiny reddish bump growing on one part of my back extraction. I'm absolutely terrified that it's an infection or oral cancer. Of course since it's the holidays I can't get in to see the oral surgeon until Wednesday and I'm driving myself insane. The growth has grown quite a bit in the past few days and its reddish pink with red veins. It's soft squishy and movable. I don't know if it's just extra gum tissue or if it's an infection or cancer. I'm currently 13 days post extraction and there's not really any pain. I have been diligent with the salt water rinses. Can someone please help?
I've attached a picture if you can look at it. I would appreciate any advice or help. This is giving me so much anxiety and I just want to enjoy Christmas with my kids!

Replies might be slower due to the Holiday Season..
You can look thru past threads , some with photos also..you might see similar and a reply to that one.. I know there was a recent one with an image and questions.

Hi Melly,

It's not cancer. You have an overgrowth of granulation tissue, possibly some splintering bone and possibly infection. You also have a build up of plaque.

Did an oral surgeon remove these teeth? If not, then it would behoove you to consult with an oral surgeon, not a general dentist. You would need your pre op xrays for that consult. I would find an oral surgeon this week and get in asap as the tissue will continue to grow and it's easier to take care of this before that happens. Keep rinsing with the warm salt water, be sure to brush and floss all of your other teeth. If you smoke, stop because that can exacerbate the overgrowth of tissue, and prolong or prohibit the healing.

It's best to eat as healthy as possible... avoid processed foods and sugar. Drink plenty of filtered water throughout the day to stay well hydrated.

Hope this information helps.

Thank you so very much Bryanna!!!
An oral surgeon removed these teeth exactly two weeks ago. I've been back to see him and he said everything looks like it was healing nicely but that was before this tissue started growing up like this. It happened in a matter of days. I showed my general dentist and she said it's just vascular tissue so it looks wonky? I had a feeling this was not normal because I had another tooth extracted on the other side and it never did this. I was on amoxicillin for 5 days after the teeth were extracted so I'm hoping for no infection? The oral surgeon had previous x-rays before he pulled the teeth and I'm going to him tomorrow. Do I demand more x-rays? What should be done about the granulation tissue? I do not smoke but I have Sjogren's disease and that's why my teeth are so bad. I've been rinsing with warm salt water and brushing like crazy... Is there anything else I can do? I'm trying to eat healthy but with the holidays it's hard 😜
I get random aches here and there so I'm not sure if it's infected or not? It just seems like the other tooth socket healed up so much faster than these are. I'm 15 days post extraction right now. The tissue is very soft and moves with my tongue... Is that normal? Does it need to be cut out? Sorry for all the questions but you are so knowledgeable and I'm so thankful to have your expertise!
Appreciate it!!!!

Hi there! I'm having a lot of costochondritis pain and my doctor has prescribed prednisone. It has now been one month since my extraction and I wanted to know if it was safe to take? I had heard steroids can really mess with dental surgeries and cause complications. Thank you so much!

Bryanna 01-14-2018 05:28 PM

Hi Melly,

I've been away ... sorry for the delay.

Did you see the oral surgeon? What was his diagnosis and did he perform any debridement of the sockets? How is the area healing at this point?

Costochondritis.... can be very painful, I get it from time to time also. Mine is the result of a car accident many years ago. Over exercising or exercising when I'm stressed, cold or tired usually kicks it off for me. What is the origin of yours and what do you think set it off? Where do you feel the pain mostly?

I cannot advice you about the prednisone. I can only say that I am not a fan of prednisone for many reasons and personally would not take it for any reason. Instead, I supplement with himalayan turmeric, and increase my Vit D3, C, and calcium until I feel better. I use a Arnica homeopathic remedy 4 times a day in between meals until the pain is gone.

I also up my water intake. I often apply arnica cream to the areas that hurt and sometimes add some magnesium cream or icy hot menthol to it. If it's really acting up in my lower rib cage, I have a rib cage wrap that I use over the cream or you can use a wide ace bandage. The wrap has velcro so it stays closed. If it is my upper ribs, then I apply a moist heat pack over the cream to help it penetrate.

Again, sorry for the delay in my reply.
