Antibiotics & Nerve Damage

Hi All

This is a link to an article that was front page in New Zealand's largest daily newspaper The Herald on Jan 3 2018.

It may have taken a long time for antibiotic induced Peripheral Neuropathy condition to be finally recognised here but at least with a Govt. run Public Health System the information will be disseminated nationwide. Unfortunately the entire health system is under resourced and Small Fiber PN, as many on Neurotalk experience it, is under diagnosed and even getting an initial consultation with a specialist is difficult let alone getting the specific diagnostics.

While the article only refers to one class of antibiotics: Fluoroquinolones - Neurotalk and other international sources cite that some other types of antibiotics such as Metrondiazole (Flagyl) can also cause neuropathy.

My recommendation for anyone who suspects they may have PN is to get it put on your medical records - and also if you can have it flagged that any antibiotics prescribed need to be checked for potential harmful side effects.
