Crps rsd X 22 yrs
 

Any help from ultrasound guided injection of numbing agent and steroid? Anything long lasting? Thanks in advance for help and your experiences! My Dr wants to try this referring me to sports med dr. Curious if it helps with long term red/crps.

22 years! you are quite a warrior.

I have had ultrasound guided injections of steroid + lidocaine to my tibial and plantar nerves. They were done by a Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation doctor who is certified in peripheral nerve ultrasound.

Mine were done partly to address surgical scar tissue to try to make some room in there but also to calm the nerves down. I did find them helpful. I had them pretty early on but it gave me a break and let me rehab better. It took something of a series of them. I had at least three. You gotta watch for atrophy in the injection area due to steroid with repeats.

Having the ultrasound guidance makes the injection much safer and better targeted. Of course there are risks with anything but the fact that the doc and I could both see the nerve on the screen made me much more comfortable than if it had been done blind.

22 years is a lot. Sadly I can't answer your question.

I have RSD/CRPS myself now, this September 22 years also. I'm nearing my 23rd year this year. Sad to say.

I'm curious whether or not I have both the CRPS and the neuroma. After 22 years they say I have a different type of CRPS and that if they can get the neuroma under control I will be healed! But I didn't get much relief at all from the first injection.

I'm going on 38 years of RSD an still today get injection they are the only thing that helps with me I have to have a couple of injection to get any lasting effect so hang in there best of luck.

Hello! 27 years here and full-body. I didn’t think that an ortho would do such an injection...interesting. Are they talking about a nerve block or what? I have had various nerve blocks in the past, they helped more early on than they did many years into this. What do you mean by a “different type of CRPS”? Also, RSD/CRPS cannot be “healed” or cured, there is only remission :(

Thanks for your reply. Yeah-originally they said it was not from an injury but now it is? That's what they meant by different type. However I always mentioned it was after the brake rotor fell onto my foot. That is as far as I could tell what started the whole mess. And now I feel it has spread outward from the original area since the injection that I had. So that totally sucks. The injection was using an ultrasound to guide the sports medicine specialist to inject lidocaine and a steroid.
