Lirtazapine withdrawel

Hey everyone,

I was wondering if someone here has knowledge or experience with mirtazapine withdrawel? Since there is not much info to find about it.

My story short. 5 months after the concussions i was cleared and everything was back to normal. In that period i took 7.5mg mirtazapine for severe insomnia and another month of tapering to a complete stop because my concussion/whiplash was healed. I'm of mirtazapine for 12 days now. But since i stopped it was like my concussion symptoms returned, although it is from the withdrawel itself.

My symptoms now: nausea, lots of muscle pain/stifness, burning skin sensation, tinnitus, overall weakness and fatigue and the feeling like i want to sleep constantly. But the thing that worries me the most is that i started to have swelling on several places in my body. I have swelling and redness around my eyes and my eustachian tubes are also swelled shut which in turn caused reversed ear drum (which is very painfull). The doctor gave me nasal steroids hoping to counter the swelling. Luckily my quality of sleep is not affected and i sleep well.

Does someone know if or how mirtazapine withdrawel causes these internal swelling and if my other symptoms are typical for mirtazapine discontinuation? It would really ease my mind.

For now im keeping positive and hoping this doesnt take to long. Ive read horror stories of people saying they are going to mirt withdrawel for almost a year. But then again i realize people who have it the worst often turn to the internet and not the people who do not suffer. It would be nice if someone could share a more positive story

It would seem like people who suffer withdrawal for a long period of time are the ones who took it for years. I'm not sure about the swelling, But withdrawal could peak around 2 weeks off then begin to cool down after that. Hang in there. Keep up with your doctor about how you are doing. Wish I could be more helpful, but yes, assume that what you find on forums through google are worst case scenarios and you won't have to deal with this that long.

Thanks for your kind words cjaillet. It does make sense that the withdrawel peaks at 2 weeks. It suddenly hit me after a week (no pun intended). Im hoping that it will start to back of now that I'm close to 2 weeks. And keeping up with my doctor is very good advise. The doc actually reffered me to a specialised ent for my tinnitus because she felt that it was necesarry and told me she would be keeping a close eye on my progress.

My withdrawal from Mirtazapine was uneventful.

However, I had only been on it for about six months and it happened when I was in a psychiatric hospital during transfer to Venlafaxine.
