Relapse

Hello All!!

I recevied a concussion in mid-Sept of this past year while up in my attic. Did not seem like to hard of a it but immediately sent me into a concussion as it was my third in four years. Recovery was rough and I saw a Speech Therapis for a few months and graduated from Speech/Brain Therapy in January. Part of recovery being rough is that I hit my head three other times Nov-Dec time frame. All innocent and mild hits, due to Mom life but each hit set me back in recovery. So it was mid-January before I was close to normal. So I have been great for a few months now. Two weeks ago I returned to a class at the gym I had been taking but have not been to since September before I hit my head. It is a past paced daily grind class of strength training, cardio, ab work, etc. Intense for me but not intense for alot of others. The class is actually a prenatal/postpartum class I like because of the instructor and time offered. There were two excercises that involved my arms and I felt strain and pulling on the top of my head. People do not understand when I explain this sensation, the sensation of my brain straining or my head being pulled on. So stopped said exercises and that night my head was giving me trouble for the first time in a while. A few days after that I woke up miserable and have been miserable since. For a week now I have been thrown back into straight concussion recovery. What the heck??? I am so frustrated! Does this sound familiar to anyone or make sense?? I played phone tag with my Neurologist's nurse for a few days to be told the Neurologist thinks that as I went so long with no headache, it must be allergies. I know the difference between allergies and post concussion symptoms

Thank you for your time. I am just so frustrated and no one gets it. So many aspects of my life have been completely disrupted by my head!!

Leslie,

Relapses aren’t uncommon.

I had plenty and searched for reasons, many were unexplained and I had to live with that much to my dislike. Some were obvious based on repeated patterns.

Pay attention to your body, it does speak to you at times.

For those explainable relapses don’t give up. Give yourself some recovery time and try the activity in a couple of weeks later, I tried to make the repeat efforts at times when I had a few open days scheduled to reduce stress during a potential recovery period.

It will get better for you, just takes time.

Bud
