Hitting head again..
Hey, The other night I was exaggerating how tired I was and very quickly jumped to the couch and thrust my head onto the pillows there. They pretty firm, but I am kind of concerned because I've had concussions before and I know its easier to get them again. I only had a tiny headache, but It could just be from me over thinking it. Should I see someone about this?

Honestly, some people get caught up with these thoughts of "Oh, I hit the pillow to hard. That must be a concussion." and their lives start to unravel in fear of every little head movement or bump. Headaches are very easy to cause by the power of suggestion. I can get headache from reading a post about headaches. If I ignore it and move on, it goes away. So, If you find yourself getting stuck in these "Was that a concussion?" thoughts, help to change that thought pattern would be worthwhile. It is called CBT, Cognitive Behavior Therapy. You learn to overcome negative thoughts with replacement thoughts. Some can do this on there own by using rational and logical responses. "Was that a concussion?" ....... " No, I landed on a pillow. There was not enough force involved. That moment of dizziness was just because I moved too fast and my inner ear could not keep up. I'll be fine." So, stop over thinking these events and rethink them if you need to. My best to you. |
I don't live with TBI/PCS but I endorse CBT.
In essence it involve learning to challenge unhelpful thoughts; asking "Is there any evidence for this thought?". Very often the answer is "No.", which is empowering. CBT is the main reason that I am in remission from Major Depressive Disorder. |
