Cannabinoid Hyperemesis

Looking to talk with anyone here dealing with Cannabinoid hyperemesis. Before I share my story I want to say I am just over one month clean of using cannabis . Totally medication (of any kind) and cannabis free I dont drink. Where I live marijuana is Not legal . I started smoking marijuana after my accident in 1999 . I snapped my lower jaw in half and ended up with permanent nerve damage in my lower facial area. I had a nerve stimulator implanted to lower right side of jaw for pain. It saved my life. But I started smoking pot because it also helped with my pain , it allowed me to have an appetite and I could eat and not vomit after, it helped me relax so I could sleep at night. I smoked/used cannabis 3-5 times a day. Then about 5 or 6 years ago I started getting sick , bad stomach pain with sever vomiting along with many times soaking in HOT bath and many trips to the ER to get hydration threw IV . I had 2 upper scopes one colonoscopy lots tests . Nothing was found and had no answers . Lost weight got down to 90 pds. Then gadtro dr decided to have my gallbladder removed and put me on small dose of amitriptyline to calm my nerves in digestive track and rx me with cycling vomiting syndrome. It worked for about a year. I moved to another state ( where cannabis is Not legal here neither)Then a couple months ago it all started again. Someone I know sent me a link about cannabinoid hyperemesis . That is when I realized it was exactly what I have . Since I was sick and vomiting already , I went cold turkey and stopped . Just stopped everything my meds and the smoking marijuana. I am just over a month of not using and just now starting to feel good. If someone tells you there are no withdrawals from using weed, cannabis they are full of crap. The stigma is real it is huge for those who live in places where cannabis is illegal. You can not talk to anyone not even your drs. Even tho I am clean off it for a bit over a month I am still afriad of getting arrested for talking about an illegal drug and yes Sharing here is pretty dang hard . There are members here that know me on other websites and to them I ask to please keep this private and keep this topic here . So if anyone has this Cannabinoid hyperemesis and wants to talk , your not alone and I will gladly talk and help support if I can. I got off marijuana and so can you.

I should explain better what it is. For some people not many but for some people after using cannabis for years, 4-6 more times a day. They start getting sick. Sever stomach pain like the stomach is being constantly rung out like a towel . Then chronic vomiting follows. You cant keep food or liquids down when thats gone you just heave stomach bile .The only thing that stops the pain and vomiting is taking a very hot shower or hot bath. Since one is already vomiting the hot shower/bath leads to dehydration and one is soon in the ER with IV to get hydrated. And this happens every few weeks. Unless you live in a state where marijuana is legal doctors really have no clue and you most likely rx with cycling vomiting syndrome BUT only after tests, blood work, upper scope ,colonoscopy and many times removal of gallbladder and if it is still there your appendix. Once you stop using marijuana you stop getting sick. Once you get past the withdrawals you should never start using again because it will start up again. I guess you could say its like becoming allergic to your favorite food or something like that. Yes there is withdrawal from marijuana : craving it, no appetite for some, tense and cant relax, these are the most common insomnia, crazy bad dreams . If any of this sounds familiar especially if hot shower/bath stops the symptoms you should speak with your doctor about possibly having Cannabinoid Hyperemesis . Even if cannabis is not legal in the state your in doctors should help and should keep things confidential without bringing in law enforcement ! I have been going threw ALL this for over 7 years . I am not using and It took close to 2 months to be over most of the withdrawals. I do still have insomnia and weird dreams but it is getting better and better. I hope this explains what Cannabinoid hyperemesis is . If I can help anyone who might have this just let me know. I am here and will gladly talk and support you.

Hi BurntMarshmallow,

I too have stopped smoking for more than a month now due to my diagnosis of CHS. Unfortunately, I had to go to the ER because I could not stop vomiting after 8 hours. By the time I arrived at the hospital with the assistance of my family, my blood pressure was 68/48. I was hospitalized for three days. I too want to help anyone who may be going through this and offer support. I originally started smoking because of fibromyalgia, and it worked great for that. Yet, at the same time, I have wanted to quit after using for a long time. So far, by the grace of God, it has not been difficult not smoking. How about you? Historically, it was hard. I think CHS makes it easier, especially given the consequences. I hesitated to quit before because of withdrawal. You're right, there is withdrawal from cannabis. I was in the hospital during the first three days of withdrawal, which was a blessing actually because they helped with the process. Now, it's easy for the most part.
