Dizziness and Balance Issues

Hello all.

I'm very dizzy throughout the day, I feel off balance, like I'm really drunk or something, light-headed.
I Don't think its inner ear problem as this isn't triggered by certain head positions, and is almost constant.
Can't tolerate visual stimulation for long, loud noises too.

I had neck/head injury when it started, 5 months ago.
Did Vision tests, all were normal, blood tests.
Sleep is greatly reducing the severity, makes it more bearable.
I'm really afraid I'll be stuck with this for the rest of my life, Indont see how I could ever feel normal again. sometimes I have good days, but way too few.

The only improvement I had so far is less frequent headaches, less intense.

Isnit possible that running for an hour, or intense workout, cause a relapse and aggravated symptoms with 1 day onset?

Has anybody else experienced this?
Also, would vestibular therapy help in this situation?

Oh yes, It was bad years ago.....Im not sure if its part we get used to it, and other part it gets better in time?

Yes I had vistibular therapy also we could track it on a machine if it improved.

I still have problems in complete darkness, and from time to time in the shower tilting head back to rinse off hair...

I Have had this for over 11 years.....I cant imagine running or doing much only 5 months in, go slow, let your brain heal even more.

Some concussion specialists divide concussions by the systems they impact. Your symptoms would indicate a vestibular concussion. The vestibular processing system may need more time to heal. This could be related to Vestibular Associated Migraine.

A vestibular assessment would be worthwhile.

This is a thought you should try to avoid. It creates an anxiety that focuses on symptoms. Focusing on symptoms will cause them to be more noticeable. Ignoring symptoms and dealing with them in the moment they impact you function is a better way to recover. The concussion researchers have found this makes a big difference in recovery.

I had to learn to move differently. If I am getting out of a chair, I need to split the move to two parts. I lean forward to get my weight over my feet then I stand up as a second move. If I try to do a combined move, I will experience a bit of balance dysfunction. It has been this way for decades, since anesthesia for surgery. It does not stop me as long as I do not do complex move or I stop and let things stabilize. I just finished a project on the roof. Up and down a ladder. I have to stop and set myself before stepping onto the ladder.

If you do gymnastics, you may have a hyper sensitivity to balance issues. This could make you more sensitive to any reduction.

I have also been diagnosed with a vestibular problem since it's not from my inner ear. Do some vestibular exercises to help with the dizziness since it's due to my eyes and not the inner ear.

Gideon,

I had the exact same problem after a car accident in jan 14 that gave me whiplash. I think it is neck related. I also had all sorts of test including vision. It took me 6-8 months before feeling better. Maybe a good pt can help? It helped me...

Apparently I might have Persistent Postural-Perceptual Dizziness(pppd), possibly due to upper neck injury.

I haven't been to my neurologist yet, but from reading about it I can sympathize,
I feel overwhelmed, like my nervous system is way too sensitive, to noise, pain, and visual stimuli.

I have also started taking 500mg magnesium citrate daily, which seems to help and reduce symptoms significantly.

I have a setback every time my neck is taking force like running and sometimes even from bumps.

I have this, and I was diagnosed as Sensory Integration.
