Slit ventricles and proximal catheters

It's been a long time since I've logged on here!

I got hit by a car yesterday afternoon (don't worry - all is okay!) and ended up in ER. They did a CT scan and the ER doc said that my ventricles are slit (which I knew), but also said that it looks like neither of my proximal catheters are even IN the ventricles. This isn't the usual hospital that I go to and it wasn't an NS to say these things, but now I'm curious.

I was 3months premature and had spinal meningitis twice, which resulted in my hydrocephalus. Last shunt malfunction was December 2008 with revisions in March 2009 (ICP monitor and subsequent revision), then an additional shunt system added in March 2010 (which REALLY helped to alleviate my symptoms!)

Is what the ER doc saw a trick of the light or radiologist reading error? Is it typical for proximal catheters to appear "outside" a slit ventricle? Has my hydrocephalus magically fixed itself?
