Experiences with upper cervical chiropractors?

Like many posters on this forum, I believe that a good portion of my symptoms are caused by some kind of problem with my neck.

I have started looking into so-called "upper cervical chiropractors" and techniques like Atlas, NUCCA, etc., but they all smack of quackery to me. I am also suspicious of most of the reviews I have read online.

Now I don't care whether a thing has a rigorous theoretical basis as long as it works. The question is, does anyone have experience, good or bad, with your cervical chiropractors?

I totally echo this post.

I, too, am looking at NUCCA , but don't want to waste my time if it's not helpful. Also considering Acupuncture...

You can use the search tool for past posts on upper cervical & neck strain treatment https://www.neurotalk.org/search.php

Some PTs & some DCs may use IF stim, manual trigger point release, low level laser (aka cold or soft laser), or even very skilled hands on therapy , deep tissue massage.

Really good ones are out there.. takes time & luck to find them..lots of searching , online reviews word of mouth..going into places and asking specific questions.. can help too.

I tried acupuncture for a month or two several years ago. The only benefit was some slight release of tension in my head and neck. On the whole I'd say it was actually counterproductive, because of the longish drive to the acupuncturist's office and the occasional rough handling of the head as the needles went in.

I went to a NUCCA chiropractor last year in Colorado. I was desperate to get rid of my dizziness and strange vision and still running from doctor to doctor 6+ months in. She offered a package deal if I bought so many visits. Ended up paying $1000 and in the end, walked away feeling like I was scammed. She would push so lightly behind my ear I could barely feel anything then check my shoe alignment at the heels. Some visits after my two hour drive she would check shoe heel alignment and say, no adjustment today send me home and that constituted a charge visit. Even after being "adjusted ", I had no change in any of my symptoms.

As we got closer to the last visit I was pushed to buy another package deal which I did not. I would have been better off getting a massage for my stiff neck which was not on the table at this NUCCA.

Heard some folks on here have found good ones unfortunately that was not my case. If you find one and they try to push package deals, I'd use caution.

Thanks for this. The more I learn about NUCCA the more skeptical I become. Since reading your experience I've also watched some videos of NUCCA practitioners and believe that there is absolutely no way that such slight pressure on the neck can have the effects they claim. I have decided not to look into these guys any further for the moment.
