High Iron Levels Since Injury

Hello all!

I got my concussion in March, and since then my Iron levels have been significantly over the normal level. I got a blood test in April, June and December all indicating my iron levels are too high. I've always been anemic up until this point, so I'm wondering why this might be.

My doctor seems completely unconcerned (ordered another blood test to see if it's a trend, but it seems to me after 3 blood tests over 8 months it's a trend) and doesn't know why my iron is so high.

Has anyone experienced this? Or have any explanation as to why this might be happening.
Thank you in advanced!

Hi Kate

Welcome to NeuroTalk :).

Are your iron levels stable but high over the April, June and December test period or are they increasing over this time?

This might be significant.

Best wishes.

My iron has been gradually decreasing at every blood test. I don't have the exact numbers as my doctor's didn't give them to me.

Thank you for getting back to me!

It is unlikely but you could have hemochromatosis.

It is not related to TBI/PCS and usually has a strong genetic component.

You could discuss this with your doctor.
