Hi everyone, I searched the internet for Peripheral Neuropathy Forums as I would like to share with others who have been diagnosed with this health problem, listen to how they have been affected and how they are dealing with it. I have been diagnosed with Peripheral Neuropathy due to nerves being damaged during operations. From 2008 to 2013 due to Arthritis I had 2 knee replacements and a spinal operation. My problems really began in 2012 and have continued worsening up to this day, my symptoms began with the base of my feet - when walking barefoot on clean floors I felt as if I was walking on grit/sharp stones from there on this is what I have endured particularly in bed at night affecting both my feet & half way up calves of legs: Pins & Needles, burning sensation, massive solid pain, individual shooting pains even into toes, cramps, feeling of numbness in both feet yet fully aware of all the pain, enormous pressure to where I feel as if my feet & legs are going to explode, pain shooting up back of both legs, feet feel cold but on feeling them they are normal temperature. If I feel hot in bed and put my feet out from under doona they freeze and become incredibly painful. At times it hurts to walk. For the past 3 weeks I am being affected by cold spots on the base of my feet, it feels as if I have just walked into spots of iced water. Over the years I advised my Dr of what was occurring, he always thought that it was damaged nerves however to alleviate various illnesses I had blood tests done without anything major showing up then a recently I had a Doppler ultra scan results being no blockages with blood flow. For years once I went to sleep at night within 2 hours I was woken with various symptoms described above & I had to get up as this is the only way to relieve the pain/pressure, no medications eased it. For the past 9 months I have had pain 24 hours a day and unable to sleep at night because of it. I am now using a T.E.N.S. machine which I am finding beneficial in that it stimulates muscles and nerves, at night I take a sleeping tablet, 2 pain killers and a vitamin D tablet. Some days and nights are better than others. By the way I have also seen a pain specialist.
