Feeling extremely dumb after sleep deprivation

Hello everyone!! I want to discuss about a pblm that has been panicking me a lot since the past one and a half year.Since the time i entered the university one and a half year ago,i used to skip sleep at night by studying late at 2 or 3 am and then going to sleep or on some nights,no sleep at all. However,i had alternate days of good sleep and poor sleep at weekends and this pattern kept on continuing for one and a half year.I also got addicted to porn watching. But,i feel loss of appetite and do not take exercise or have outdoor activities. Before joining university, everything was fine but after changing my lifestyle in the ways descibed above,i have noticed some weird effects on the body.My IQ has considerably decreased,my cognitive skills are damaged,i cannot think ,plan or make brisk decisions,I have become dull.I cannot remember new things and it has become increasingly difficult for me to remember new faces and dustinguish between people with identical looks. And also face trouble in voice recognition skills. These have been considerably hampered. The pblm is now i cannot sleep even though i go early to bed or feel sleepy as if tgat internal inbuult mechanism of the mind as been lost.I am just overconscious of the fact that i am trying to sleep and just cannot relax or let go of the things around me the way a person does when he just falls asleep in a natural inbuilt manner. It is as if sleep just cannot come and take control over my body and my brain would never switch off by itself.
I want to ask a question now.The neuro symptoms i have mentioned regarding lower IQ,slower thinking and difficulties in remembering faces or identifying voices..Do u think the lifestyle that i mentioned above for one and a half year really caused my BRAIN TO SHRINK OR THE LOSS OF GREY MATTER AND NEURONS??DOES THIS THING HAPPEN QUITE EASILY???AND MIGHT IT BE THE CASE WITH ME TOO??
I WOULD ALSO BE PLEASED IF SONEONE COULD HONESTLY TELL ME THAT CAN I REGAIN MY LOST GREY MATTER OR REGENERATE NEURONS AFTER SUCH DAMAGE DUE TO THE AFOREMENTIONED REASONS??IS IT POSSIBLE AND IF SO,THEN HOW???

Sleep hygiene (learning and then applying good habits in preparation for sleeping well) should be able to help you. See Sleep hygiene - Better Health Channel .

Possible loss of grey matter/neurons can be measured using methods like MRI. An experienced neurologist should be able to discuss this possibility with you.

Heya

You might want to speak with a Dr about your concerns. It might due to long term sleep or stress issues.

It sometimes can be the cast that a person will seeing things whatever they are looking for. AKA every time you forget something you wonder if something is wrong. (even though everyone has brain farts).

Either way, speaking with a medical professional would be a great first step.
