Needles

Hi Everyone! Peace and Hugs to you all!

I checeked all over on here and coudln't find my answer, so thought I would toss it out.

July 12, I went in for some bloodwork. The area the needle went in (non rsd arm) took ages to heal, and my sister thought it looked infected. I started to put peroxide on it and it seems to have healed up. But, now it is achy and I don't know if that is all in my head or what?

My problem is, is that he wants more blood testing done, and I am a little concerned?!

Do they, or will they, draw from that same arm and area?
Has anyone else's needle entries seemed to get infected and not heal?
Can they use the baby needles to draw blood? (which I read to request for IV's)

Thanks for any input!
Hippy

Hippyhair,

I haven't ever had a problem with blood draws since I started asking for a butterfly needle as I have veins that roll and collapse. I also get butterflys for minor surgical procedures such as blocks.

I suggest anyone that has problems with needle sticks for blood work or minor surgical procedures request a butterfly needle. I had major surgery on my left carotid artery and my IV was in the opposite side of my neck when I woke up.

I hope I answered you question and gave you some good info you can use.

You need to start having them use a pediatric needle. The needles used for adults are too big and can cause too many problems.

I will attach a "hospital protocol" that you can print.

Hi Hippy

I agree with Christine and Barb, just wanted to add that I have to have needles put in my hand and a month ago I had to go two days in a row where they put a needle in the same hand. It was swollen and looked like someone took a hammer to it, but it healed ok -took a while- and RSD did not sit in that hand. Thank God!!! Carose

:You-Rock: !! Thank you for all your answers!! I saw the info on the butterfly needle, but, I thought it was only for IV.

Peace
Hippy
