Memory Issues

Hey All,

I hope everyone is feeling great today!

As some of you know, I have been recovering for about 2 1/2 years now since my incident. I have made tremendous progress, but I have a few remaining issues I just can't kick. I can live with most of them, but my memory seems to be the worst of it.

I am constantly forgetting why I came into a room, what I was working on in the middle of work, and names are the worst. Even people I have known for years and years while associating on a daily basis - I have begun to forget their names and it takes me minutes to hours to recall their name.

I have noticed if I have a "cue" to remember something - it comes almost instantly. I just struggle to get there without one.

Does anyone else have this problem?

Thanks!

Yep, These are common problems. The only solution is to learn to be purposeful when you need to remember something. For our prior life, our memory worked without effort. Now, we have to make an effort, for some a great effort, just to remember.

If people ask me what is the biggest struggle about living with a concussion, my answer is, "I forget."

Yes this drove me crazy for a long time.....Try a few strategies. For me saying out loud helped, also repeating out loud.

Writing things down........and simply keeping it simple....If I try to do 2 things at once or change tasks mid stream, it just messes me up..

Im in over 12 years, and I have far more peace than I ever did!
