Symptoms/Anxiety

Good afternoon everyone, hope all is well. I am currently 26. Around 15 months ago, I noticed that my eyelids started to start dropping a bit. The right eye much more significantly than the left. It felt like I also had a problem focusing or seeing with the right eye. Went to the eye doctor they said everything looked normal. Around that same time I noticed the right side of my face felt heavy, especially the corners of my mouth. At times, it felt like there was this throbbing feeling and it became difficult to smile as the corners of my mouth would buckle. My face just felt really weak. Even talking sometimes and moving my mouth felt like a task. I always just chalked it up to stress and anxiety, as it seems like whenever my anxiety was high the symptoms got worse. But I realized that the symptoms came on first, followed by the anxiety. Stress only made things worse. I went to my GP who said everything “seemed fine”.

These symptoms come and go. Sometimes I feel ok, other days the symptoms hit me like a truck. I am concerned that this may be Myasthenia Gravis. Does anyone have any input or experience with these symptoms?

It sounds as though you could possibly be showing some early signs of MG. I would recommend you begin collecting some photos of yourself when you are both strong and when feeling the weakness. To be the most accurate, choose a place where the lighting and background can be consistent. You may also want to keep a symptom diary. Many women notice a worsening of symptoms associated with our menstrual cycles.

Once/if you collect enough information to make you feel that yes, this is a problem, you can present the information to your doc again and ask for a referral to a neuro or ophthalmologist. Of course if anything gets much worse (as it may with warmer temperatures) you may need to act sooner.

Good luck!

New MG Diagnosis

I was diagnosed with MG 4 weeks ago.Had droopy eyelids, each eye closed and one eye turned towards my nose. After all that cleared up, I’m now dealing with DV,fatigue, occasional shortness of breath. Now I’m on Mestinon and Prednisone. I reduced the Prednisone dose myself because of the side effects. I’m a cancer survivor, a widow since November. I don’t have any family except for my adult son and I am very grateful for him. We are mourning the death and now this. I’m angry, do not want to accept it, and having difficulty dealing with the changes. I don’t have anybody that I can talk to that can understand what I’m feeling. I don’t even understand it. Any thoughts?

I hope you'll ask your GP to send you to a neurologist, maybe? Keep a list of any and all symptoms you have , how often, how bad, etc. I love my doctors, but if I am having symptoms that they can't or won't address, I have to do that for myself.....and I do.....my health, or lack thereof, belongs exclusively to me.
