Trigeminal nueralgia treatment in San Diego CA.

My battle with Trigeminal neuralgia started when I was 24, and it was such a struggle to learn to cope with typical and atypical TN. I have seen so many Dr's trying to find relief. Ohio was no help to me, been on tegretol most of my ten years with TN, and after moving last June to San Diego I had begun my battle to find proper care. It's been just that a battle, being handed off from one doctor to another. Told by each one that the next would be able to help me find pain relief.

Today after months of waiting to see a pain specialist, I had a gleam of hope that this doctor might be my saving grace. Not the case, was asked what I expected him to do I was already on proper meds. While these meds help take care of the typical, the pain from the Atypical is far from being at a place where I can function in normal day to day life. He offered a nerve block, but that is not a route I'm interested in taking. How is it that this horrible disorder not allowed me treated with pain meds??? I'm told it's all political, and of course I know the fight again opioids is serious across the nation. I want to know how other are being treated in southern California. Am I having just horrible luck, or is this something I can expect from every pain specialist I see.

I'm so frustrated, ten years and pain management does not seem within my grasp. Any advice would be much appreciated. He sent me home with IBP 800, but that has not touched the pain in the past.

Thanks in advance!

I see that you wrote your question here back in 2019 and you had TN 10 years before that. I pray that you have been helped with your TN. TN is a terrible thing to have. I know because I had it. I first experienced it in the shower when water would hit my left eye brow, it would trigger TN and it felt like someone stabbing me in the eye with an ice pick. The pain was unbearable. it got worse. When the wind would blow on my face, the wind would trigger it. It got so bad I had to quit work. Couldnt drive my car anymore because when Tn was triggered sometimes I could not see and sometime the pain was so bad that I would pass out. To make a long story short, A pain specialist reccommended I see a Nuero Surgeon in Houston Texas, in which I did and he did surgery on me. I was cured from the pain and able togo back to work and be normal again. That was back 27 years ago at the age of 50. I am now 77 and still working and having fun. I hope you have gotten your TN corrected. :)
