IVIG Treatment

I was recently given my first dosage of IVIG after I was admitted to the hospital by my doctor. My insurance rejected in-home therapy and attending an outpatient facility but my doctor was able to have me admitted for 4 treatments of IVIG.

Let me tell you that after these 4 treatments, I felt like I could run through a wall. My slurred speech instantly went away, I had full tongue flexibility (as opposed to only being able to move it across 7-8 of my top teeth) and I felt as good as I had over the past 6 months.

This was surprising because I had been told that I may not see improvements for 1-2 weeks (and in some cases up to 4 weeks). However, about 10 days after treatment, my symptoms have returns and I am extremely frustrated. Can I expect a return to the improved status I had or is this just a bump in the road where I will need another treatment shortly? Unfortunately, insurance is looking to do everything in its power to prevent this from occurring.

Hope this has picked up

I hope the IVIG is helping with your symptoms. You should have had a few treatments by now. I've been on IVIG treatments sinc 2000 through the road of IV to subcultaneous now IT seems like if you don't have symptoms of the disease, then your have symptoms from the drug to treat it. My case anyway.

Unfortunately, IVIg is just a temporary fix to your symptoms. I have to do two infusions every 3 weeks to manage my symptoms.

The great thing is it's working. If you're like me you may need less infusions in the future if the symptoms can be controlled with other meds.

Sorry to hear about your insurance company issues. It's surprising to hear they wanted you to be admitted. The cost of doing an infusion while in the hospital is going to be far more than doing it as outpatient.
