when best to take Prednisone.

Can anyone give me their experience of taking Prednisone with mestinon. Is it best taken in one dose or split up throughout the day? Does it interfere with the action of Mestinon or is it ok to take the two at the same time? Is it good to take right before going to sleep? How long does it take to start working.

We are still trying to figure out what is going on with my husband's Myasthenia as the medicine just doesn't seem to be working as well as it did. He is needing a nap barely an hour after getting up in the morning.

I know that these are questions best addressed to the doctor but he is not available right now and I really would appreciate any input that you can give me.

Thanks,
Hope you are all keeping safe.

When I was taking prednisone I took it all in the morning. It helped with sleeping at night. In fact I would argue against taking prednisone before bedtime. Of course the Mestinon needs to be spread out over the course of the day. There is no interaction between the two. I think the prednisone needs to be taken with food. Prednisone may make you feel a little worse before you feel better. Have your husband take all of the prednisone in the morning and see if he isn’t feeling better by the time you see his neurologist.

I agree - Prednisone should all be taken in the morning. Spreading it out during the day just makes it hard to sleep at night. It does not interact with the mestinon, Hope things start going better for you. Just a note, don't stop taking the prednisone without talking with your doctor first. It has to be weaned down slowly. If you stop it all at once, you can get in real trouble.

I agree as well with taking your prescribed dose in the morning.

First thing upon waking, I take my first dose of Mestinon with milk. After some morning tasks that I am able to do such as tending to our pups and kitchen duties, I make breakfast then I take my full dose of Imuran and Prednisone. By this time I am able to determine where I'm at in terms of what my body is capable of doing. Some days I can do more so I go down my list of things I can do and pick one based on my condition at the time. At around noon or one, I take my next Mestinon and a 2 to 3hr nap. I take Mestinon before my nap because my body tends to do a bit better upon waking. After my nap, I help my wife with dinner, then take my next dose of Mestinon. After I eat, I either do the dinner dishes or I'm just sacked out for the rest of the night on the couch.

MG is something that cannot be anticipated or relied upon to be stable enough to plan your life beyond the moment - it's frustrating. However, it's possible to manage some semblance of a life with it. Some days I wake in the morning and an hour later I'm back in bed. Some days I am able to perform more muscular activities such as outside work and then I'm screwed for two days. Sometimes it feels like the meds aren't working and sometimes they do...just keep taking them as prescribed - the alternative is worse.

Good Luck!
