Head jolt worsening symptoms

Hi all,

Had PCS for three months now. The symptoms have not been improving at all. Anyways, yesterday I got a stupid idea and started shadow boxing. After one uppercut in the air, I could feel my head/brain jolt so I stopped. After that I started feeling increasing fatigue, brain fog, dizziness and other symptoms. Is it possible that I got a new concussion from this?

Absolutely not!

Thank you. It sure feels like it. I'm totally wiped out. I did shadow box for a minute before I felt that it might be a bad idea..

LostSoul, You say you have had PCS for 3 months.

Can you tell us some details about the impact and your diagnosis, symptoms, treatment, self-treatment, and timeline?

No, shadow boxing did not cause a concussion.

You should get the idea of boxing out of your mind. Boxing is all about damaging brains.

Hit back of my head into cabinet. Immediately got dizzy, fatigued, headache and brain fog Continued like this ever since then. During the first months I was resting a lot and not working. Lately, I have started to work 25% again. Not going that well, fatigue and brain fog getting in the way. Since yesterday I have had severe headache, motion sickness, extreme fatigue and nausea. I cannot turn my head slowly without getting extremely dizzy.. Can barely walk..

Have you had a vestibular assessment? A bump like that can dislodge the inner ear crystals that help with balance. The resulting vestibular over stimulation can cause a serious fatigue problem.

Muscle spasms behind the ears with tenderness at the bony spots behind the ears can cause headaches.

Any forward impact of the head from behind can disrupt the proper position of the skull on C-1 and C-2. It only take 5 Gs to injure this joint. It takes 60 Gs to cause a concussion.

80% of concussion like symptoms are from this upper neck trauma.

A vestibular assessment should be a high priority.

No, I have not had that yet. What do you think of my new symptoms since yesterday? Just by turning my head slowly, I get severe vertigo, dizziness and head pressure. I'm so fatigued that I can barely leave my bed...

That is why I posted what I did. Get a vestibular assessment. You may need an Epley Maneuver or similar vestibular treatment.

Ok, thank you. Also, when I walk, I notice that I can feel the impact of the footsteps in my head. It immediately gives me forehead pressure, nausea and increased dizziness. Is it possible that I'm damaging my brain just by walking around?

Oh boy, I really ****** myself up.. Having a real hard time dealing with this **

Lost Soul88,

Your anxiety is causing your sensory system to notice every single sensation. The same anxiety can cause you to hear your heartbeat.

NO, Walking is not hurting your brain.

You need to know that the quickest way to not get a reply from me is to ask questions about "Is this normal behavior causing brain damage?"

I am not a therapist for people who can't think logically.

Get a home blood pressure test kit. They cost $30. When you feel this pressure, check your blood pressure. Your anxiety is causing your blood pressure to rise.

On a scale of 1 to 10, most people who experience a head impact like you did will experience symptoms in the 5 range. If that same person struggles with anxiety, those same symptoms will feel like a 10. Anxiety doubles and triples the symptoms of a concussion or whiplash.

This anxiety issue is well known by the concussion researchers. Something like 80 of people who get a concussion and have a predisposition to anxiety will experience prolonged concussion symptoms, even last a year or more. Once they treat the anxiety with CBT or other therapies, symptoms resolve.

How do I know you struggle with anxiety? Simple. You have twice expressed an increase in symptoms from something that does not cause symptoms to increase from a physiological cause.

But, First you need to rule out a vestibular trauma. A little bit of vestibular confusion and a little bit of anxiety can cause a horrendous level of symptoms.

Once your vestibular system is assessed and treated, a visual assessment might be worthwhile. If you eyes are struggling to work together, that also creates a brain overload of chaotic visual sensation. This can cause dizziness and nausea.

But, vestibular assessments are easier to get and usually easier to treat.

So, don't ask me if laying down hard on a pillow or a sudden stop in the car or turning your head quickly has caused brain damage....

btw, If I walk around with ear plugs in, I hear every step like it is a hammer in my head. That is normal. If it was damaging, the human population would have died when we started walking on hard artificial surfaces.
